Gamecocks 2025-2026 Season

Has anybody seen/heard an update on Latson’s injury?

I assume she will not play against Bama even if it was a very minor sprain . We all seem to assume Makeer will start or maybe Ayla.

Raven at point. Maddy a backup
Tessa moves to 2. Makeer or Ayla as backuo
Makeer or Ayla to 3
Joyce at 4. Dauda backup
Okote at 5, Tac backup

Is Tournabize on campus yet? Rumors are acceptable at this point

I don’t think Dawn will move Tessa to the 2 and put Gotti at the 3. She’ll just let Gotti play the 2. I think she starts.

I should be more excited about the SEC season, but I'm not because I think there are a few frauds amongst us.

Georgia's best win is...Kansas? Kansas is a bubble team at best. UGA's January stretch is hellacious, though--and we will find out a lot about them early.

Alabama has a win over a pretty good Minnesota team, but they're going to lose by at least 20 on Thursday and will get swept by us.

Mississippi State has filled up on an HBCU-heavy diet and got beat by a Big 12 team that could also be a fraud. They'll be under 0.500 by mid-January and won't catch up. Despite that, there will be people on here insisting that Sam Purcell can coach.

Vanderbilt's best win came against an overrated UVA team that lost at home to UMBC. They didn't even schedule that game--the conference did.

LSU never plays anyone during the OOC portion of their schedule, but they have the athletes and coach to overcome that.

Of those five teams, LSU is the only one that I think will finish with a conference record above 0.500. I won't pick LSU to win the conference because they're playing Texas twice.
No UVA coach will ever schedule UMBC, again.

Good start to the beginning of conference play. Some thoughts:
  • A dominant win against a top 30 team. Third quarter was the difference.
  • We miss Latson, and need her back as soon as she’s 100%.
  • Makeer has made the most of her opportunity with Latson out, and looks to have established herself as the first player off the bench when Latson comes back.
  • Edwards is making the case for All-American honors.
  • Raven is making a case for being drafted by the WNBA.
  • Best starting five (Edwards, Okot, Latson, Tessa, and Raven) maybe ever for our team
  • Our newest addition from overseas can’t get ready soon enough… the bench needs reinforcements.
  • Defense is our most important strength… it feeds our ability to get separation on the scoreboard.
YMMV

Games started (through 1/1/26)

Agot Makeer - 1
MiLaysia Fulwiley - 0

Sorry. Couldn’t resist. 😈
My impression of the Fulwiley situation was that her support system outside the team (I.e., family/friends) was convinced she was a star being held back by Coach Staley, and needed a coach less likely to curb her impulsive nature ( the proclivity to jack up 3’s on a whim), and that LSU was the answer to their prayer. Turns out that Coach Mulkey has expectations of discipline on the court, too. Does Lay have talent? Tons of it, especially on defense. But so far, in two top programs, she has not been able to consistently demonstrate the ability to play within a system enough to merit a regular starting assignment.

To be clear: Makeer started because Latson was hurt. So maybe not a fair comparison.

Coaches don’t win multiple national championships by allowing the players to dictate how the game is played. If you can’t play as a member of a team in executing both offense and defense, you’ll sit until you do.

L$U couldn't help themselves but it was not the best choice for Fulwiley.

I would have liked for her to pick somewhere that would just let her cook.

Would have been zero hard feelings except she chose maybe the only school that would have taken the FAMs out of her corner.

Hell Texas would have been forgiveable.

I thought it was a pretty satisfying win vs Alabama.

The last two minutes of the 1st half were disappointing, but game was never really in doubt.

Not bad at all with Latson out.

For whatever reason, any struggle at all by SCar freaks out some of the fans and local media causes the national media to immediately start ignoring them.

The point being... Fulwiley would probably have started that game. Fulwiley got a bigger check but that is all. I am not blaming her but if her goal was to start, I think she picked the wrong team. Fast and good or fast and bad. Consistently/inconsistent. Her game has just been summed up.

Overall a satisfying win. One concern: Bama blocked 10 of our shots!

We still dominated paint scoring but it shows me that we need to look more at kicking it out to the 3 point shooters when we have it down low. Cut down on forcing the shot when the lane is crowded.

Great game by Raven. Makeer was solid in her first start.

I saw the blocked shots as a growth opportunity for Okot. She was well scouted and will need to develop some counters over the next few months.

Bama is a much better team than I expected. I think they look like a tournament team around the 7-10 seed area. Their makeup reminds me of the early Dawn Staley days before she won her first championship -- like around the Welch teams in the early 2010s.

Okot just needs to recognize the double team and kick it back out. She'll learn. Basketball is still a new sport for her.

That sounds easy. In reality, it’s a lot more difficult to do with several defenders swarming around you. The key is recognizing a double team early, preferably before it locks in, then knowing where your best outlet(s) are and then quickly and accurately getting rid of the ball.

For some players it becomes second nature. But others play their entire careers without figuring it out.

We will see on Bama.

Most other teams will have their hands full with Cody and they got a couple of guards.

Typically a well coached team that just doesn't have the horses to make big noise.

I think we've seen Okot play well vs good teams without too much struggle.

I believe part of this game was absence of Latson, who has had a nice two person game with OKot.

Also I think they sagged more off Agot than teams have felt comfortable doing with Latson.

I just think if you're picking your poison you'd probably still choose giving Raven, Agot, and Edwards long jumpers.

Raven's offense has seriously altered the equation for the team though.
