Gamecocks 2025-2026 Season

Some us have our doubts about this team. Yes we had a small roster in 2024 and went undefeade. But we had quality subs at guard ( Milaysia and Tessa) AND bigs (Feagan and Watkins). This team has developing talent at guard but we have not seen development of backup bigs.
This team has a lot better shot at winning it all than last year’s bunch.

But it might not get as far.

So, this PC at SC game is interesting as it will be used as a barometer for both SC and UConn as UConn plays at PC on Wed night. I still think this SC team is pretty darn good and is an absolute Final Four contender. Yes, they are not as deep a roster as in past years but a normal and tight rotation is 8/9 so they have that. Also this years team is very efficient according to the metrics (and significantly better than last year).

Not sure why I am trying to convince the SC fans but…
I think we're all just holding our breath because of the depth. This team is good and has all of the pieces to give any team a run for their money, but our depth situation just scares us. As fans and as a program, we've gotten comfortable having a very productive bench and that's not really the case this year.

Praying Latson's injury isn't anything serious. My goodness we need a break.

Saw she only had 11 minutes… what happened?

I saw SC v Louisville and was very impressed. Okot is very good. Not sure if anyone will contain her.

When the Christmas season is over, I'll speak my mind on this. But unto them... Good Tidings to all.... and to all a Good night.

Rolled ankle in the 2nd quarter. We're still waiting to hear more about the severity. Dawn says she was smiling and getting treatment the 2nd half of the game, didn't come back to the bench. We'll see.

Ok, I hear ya but, really what teams worry you that you need more depth in the front court? Playing small has worked for UConn for years now and you do have the talent to be successful

Well, Latson’s ankle injury yesterday provides an example of how fragile we are -even in the back court. Let’s assume it is a minor ankle sprain, she will be out at least two weeks against Bama, Florida, Arkansas and Georgia. We could survive that while our two freshman guards substitute for her..

But, if it’s more than a mild ankle sprain, we will be without her against kthe third week’s opponents which include Texas and Oklahoma! No question we need her for Texas, who is ant least our equal in talent and against Oklahoma’s fast pace offense.

The good news is that freshman Makeer returned from concussion protocol yesterday. She had a slow first half going like 0-5 but broke loose in the second half to end up with a ten point/rebound double double. But starting in SEC is gonna be a different story. Her classmate, McDowel, looked decent but soph backup PG, Maddy McDaniel, has been Questionable at best. Tessa and Raven are gonna have to play long minutes in Taniyah, absence.

Hopefully, we’ll hear good (or not too bad) news on Taniyah’s injury today. But I’m a glass-half - empty type.

Hoping that it's "only" a rolled ankle. Looking at the video it looked more serious to me. Best to Ta'Niya Latson.

You do realize what forum you are on and the recent history of our having to make do with what we had right? You seem to be a bit "woe is me" which doesn't play well with any of us. Your team is truly talented and littered with All-Americans so I am sure Dawn will find a way to muddle through. I mean you have 1 freaking player averaging 30 minutes per game-ONE! In 2022-23 we had 5. In 2023-24 we had 6 players average 30 Minutes per game.

I am just telling you that your constant bemoaning is getting a bit tiresome.

No one is forcing you to be here, brother. Truth is, we like playing 8-9 players meaningful minutes… but that’s us. You do you.

This is one heck of an assumption of how those who participate on both sides of the board view the poster's view on their team's situation. You're speaking for yourself on this point in my opinion.

And this is why we have a General sub forum and a thread for certain teams, such that their fans can opine on topics related to that specific team. None of us have to agree with everything that's not related to UConn WBB. Personally, I enjoy the perspectives of other teams' fans.

Allow me to be the voice of reason. Let's all simmer down in here. You guys could all learn a lesson from me on how to remain calm, reasonable, level headed, friendly, and respectful to other fan bases.

I refrained from responding to this post earlier because I wanted my pride and emotion to dissipate. I understand your post and its basis in 2023, and it is not disrespectful of our program in anyway. Nevertheless, I don't consider my posts to be "constant bemoaning.' Rather, I consider them to be an attempt to reel in the lofty expectations of some of our other more optimistic fans who post in this thread and board.

Yes, we have had a very good run over the past ten years and have arguably been the best program of this middle aged decade of the '20s. We'll see in 2030. We have finished as a top four team each year this decade and have reached five straight final fours following our excellent year with no tournament. We fans have lofty expectations and want the run to continue. However, only one team has had a better run then 5 Final Fours - your team. And how did that run end? With injuries.

We have lost some of those All Americans you mentioned in Watson and Kitts. I have worried about depth since the season tipped off. Another one, Latson, is now injured and will miss at least a few games. We don't know yet. We are thin on players with a full roster of only ten, and have finished only three games with all ten available. We need freshmen to perform and may start one until Latson returns. The most likely, Makeer, has been out with an injury herself and has little experience. I think it is quite reasonable for a fan of a team like ours to fear injury in this situation.

On another note, I have dissuaded by fellow Gamecocks on this board from getting too excited about Tournabize joining the team. Yes, we need depth but let's not heap expectations on a tall, thin foreign gal who has never shown the strength to maintain rebounding position against a Beers, a Carlton or a Koval.

I have seen you attempt to reel in the expectations of TonyC and other blind optimists of the UConn fanbase. Is it wrong?

Peace for now, though I expect we'll have future disagreements. That's what forums are for in large part.

I’m gonna turn this thread in another direction. I’m excited for the SEC to get started. I know the consensus top 4 are SC, Texas, LSU, and Oklahoma but Vandy, Tennessee, Bama, Georgia, Kentucky, Miss St and Ole Miss have the potential to determine who takes the #1 spot. I’m anxious to see how LSU, Bama, Vandy and Georgia do now that the competition really ramps up. I’m not going to try to figure out the entire conference but my top 8, in order, are SC, Texas, LSU, Oklahoma, Kentucky, Vandy, Tenn and ole Miss. The Texas/SC game in the first month of the year might be the game that determines the champion when it’s all said and done. Texas/LSU play 2X. Texas is at SC, SC is at LSU. it’s gonna be fun!

Is there any chance that Oklahoma sneaks past LSU?

It's really hard to say because their schedule has been so easy. The did win at Duke, but Duke has not been good this season.

I should be more excited about the SEC season, but I'm not because I think there are a few frauds amongst us.

Georgia's best win is...Kansas? Kansas is a bubble team at best. UGA's January stretch is hellacious, though--and we will find out a lot about them early.

Alabama has a win over a pretty good Minnesota team, but they're going to lose by at least 20 on Thursday and will get swept by us.

Mississippi State has filled up on an HBCU-heavy diet and got beat by a Big 12 team that could also be a fraud. They'll be under 0.500 by mid-January and won't catch up. Despite that, there will be people on here insisting that Sam Purcell can coach.

Vanderbilt's best win came against an overrated UVA team that lost at home to UMBC. They didn't even schedule that game--the conference did.

LSU never plays anyone during the OOC portion of their schedule, but they have the athletes and coach to overcome that.

Of those five teams, LSU is the only one that I think will finish with a conference record above 0.500. I won't pick LSU to win the conference because they're playing Texas twice.

Has anybody seen/heard an update on Latson’s injury?

I assume she will not play against Bama even if it was a very minor sprain . We all seem to assume Makeer will start or maybe Ayla.

Raven at point. Maddy a backup
Tessa moves to 2. Makeer or Ayla as backuo
Makeer or Ayla to 3
Joyce at 4. Dauda backup
Okote at 5, Tac backup

Is Tournabize on campus yet? Rumors are acceptable at this point

I doubt that OU is tougher than LSU or as athletic.
You could be right. I’m really curious to see how Koval does against Beers. And how Chavez does against… well, against a trio of really good guards. I suspect she’ll flounder if LSU plays real defense.

it is an open question whether LSU is good in or can defend the post I suppose.

They certainly are not deep there, but I haven't seen Beers really be able to give them enough to knock anyone off.

Now that I've said that it will prolly be SCar.
