Game Week - UConn v. ECU (Sunday 9/24/17 @ Noon on ESPNU)

.-.
UConn 42 - ECU 34.

This is a must win game. We have start beating ECU and Temple if we are going to climb out of the hole. First step is Sunday.

Still trying to figure out the personnel ??? What have you been doing since last December?

>>He needs 22 yards to become the first running back in UConn history with more than 1,000 receiving yards. If he gets there on Sunday, he will become the fourth active FBS back to reach that milestone joining Washington State's Jamal Morrow, Southern Mississippi's Ito Smith and Ohio's Papi White.<<

>>With 86 career catches, Newsome is five shy of Joe Markus' program record for running backs set from 1979-82. He also ranks seventh among active FBS running backs in that category.

Also, with 4,313 career all-purpose yards Newsome is 74 shy of moving past Jordan Todman and into third place in that category in UConn history.<<

#2 of 3:

>>2. Make Bryant Shirreffs prove he can beat ECU with his arm

OK, so the Pirates tried this approach last week against Virginia Tech and quarterback Josh Jackson, and it didn't work so well. Jackson, a mobile dual-threat quarterback, was held to negative yards rushing but proved he can still take over games with his arm. But, unless Shirreffs has improved a lot under new offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee, ECU has seen the past two seasons his accuracy and decision-making ability is limited within the pocket. Shirreffs loves to use his legs, but if the Pirates can contain him and force him to try and beat them down the field, I like the defense's chances of showing some major improvement this week.<<
