Game 1 Draft - Best Pick

By best pick, I mean best value based on people taken before them and how much value they add, so pretty much 1st and 2nd round games probably don't rise to definition, but if you want to make an argument for one, have at it.

For me and I haven't thought about this as much as the worst pick, I have to go with Tony Robertson in the 6th round. Huge value that late. A do it all guy who always left it all on the court - including teeth - for UConn. A really strong argument could also be made for Donny Marshall with the 3rd to last pick in the draft in the 7th round.

Best pick was definitely Donny Marshall in 7th round. Are you kidding me? THat's a 6'7" guy with 16/6 per game He's going as my worst pick for everyone who didn't draft him before then.

Yeah. Kicking myself for not thinking of him for my 7th spot. Oh well, love my team.

Part of my strategy for picking Robertson was to go guard heavy and to weaken other teams.

Tony Robertson was way undervalued in the drafts. As I said in another thread, I would definitely have taken him over Rashad Anderson (who would be better in the 6/7). Tony is a much better basketball player than Rashad. Rash's great value in this draft is that he would be good to bring off the bench for some 3pt shooting.

It's funny that you got them back to back and so it was a wash for you!

Fact check -

It was Jerome who lost teeth for UConn - he had a couple knocked out against DePaul.

Tony Robertson merely had some teeth loosened against Arizona.

God knows what important information has been squeezed out of my brain to make room for that collection of useless knowledge.

Touche! I didn't say stats were important, just that it's not the only factor.

Ultimately, it'll come down to match ups anyway. And voter preferences. For instance, I'll generally favor overall defensive teams. Because that's UCONN.

I could already tell based on your comments that you don't think much of my team. I do wonder how voter biases will shake out, between personal preference, how much a voter knows/likes particular players, how much a voter knows/likes a particular poster, how many older people will overrate some of the old school players, etc

I didn't say that. It depends on how you match up. Your 1st two picks were perfect. You've got Ray -- Top 5 all time. That is huge. I also loved Chris Smith. For some reason, I thought he'd slip a bit and was glad to see he didn't in either draft. Yes, I didn't love the Boone pick, but against the right matchup, he's a good pick.

I guarantee that nobody is going to hold it against a poster if they don't like them or knows them or whatever. There's definite stylistic preferences/differences, but that's what makes it entertaining.

The hardest part is evaluating pre Calhoun players. No idea myself.

I'm just saying that because while I don't think my team is awful defensively, my group is definitely mainly about scoring.

I clearly didn't give any weight to anything pre 3pt era, I just generally think the athleticism/size/speed doesn't match up well (obviously there are exceptions, but I don't think any of the pre 3pt guys taken here prove this wrong). I just know some older posters will overrate those guys.

I knew Rashad wouldn't be available later on which is why I took him earlier. I would have both Tony and Rashad off the bench on my team.
