Seriously.Forget the last 25 years, we have the most titles in the last 50 years. They’re all chasing us
Not to mention, Kentucky didn't even include Black players on their teams until 1969 -- 1969!! -- due to segregation policies in the South. Half of their NCAA titles are firmly from that era. UConn may not have a ton of big-time basketball history before Calhoun came along, but not all history is good history, either.In 1948, Kentucky’s first title, there were eight schools in the tournament. They had to beat Columbia to get to the final four (all three games they played that tournament were at MSG), Holy Cross to get to the championship game then Baylor to win it all.
In 1949, when they won their second, there were also eight schools in the tournament. They beat Villanova, then Illinois to win the “east” (again at MSG), then traveled to Seattle a week later to face Oklahoma A&M (now State).
We can make an exceptionally valid case that those two titles are what separates UK from us at this point in accomplishments. By the way, UK’s best player then, Alex Groza (brother of NFL hall of famer Lou Groza) was banned for life from the NBA as he and a couple other UK players were involved in point shaving during the 1948-1949 season (second title). It would not be unreasonable to call at least one of UK’s first two titles into question.
UConn has more titles in the last 25 years than Dook & UNC COMBINED, as Danny said;
"UCONN RUNS college basketball"
I was going to post the exact same GIF last night, with the same point! The blue blood stuff is last century nonsense. We are THE program now.We’ll be ones who will tell other schools if they’re a blue blood or not.
Indiana, Duke, Kansas, UCLA….make your cases now.
I wouldn't rule it out in the pros, either.Best Husky team ever.
Not pro wise.
But team wise.
Kansas fans as well. Huh?It's crazy how dillusional Kentucky fans are talking that they're a better program.
1999 and 2004 would give this team fitsI wouldn't rule it out in the pros, either.
We caught UNC last night and now we’re coming for their a$$e$ next.It's crazy how dillusional Kentucky fans are talking that they're a better program.
UNC counts one from 1957.We caught UNC last night and now we’re coming for their a$$e$ next.
Best program over the last 50 years after giving the field a 25 year head start.New Bloods!! Taken from Seth Greenberg.
Old money does not respect new money. Same conceptI respect those programs and their histories. However, they have no choice but to respect UConn’s program as well. They don’t have to like UConn, but they have to respect them.
The clock should start ticking in 1990. We were a top program throughout the 90's. Best in the Big East, like now.Best program over the last 50 years after giving the field a 25 year head start.
