If Simmons played for UConn, she would have been cut to shreds on this board.

Well, more than she already is....lol.

1. Fans of other teams are welcome.

2. UConn fans who think the fans of other teams talk too much about their own teams are welcome:

. . . a) to send us private messages about it; or

. . . b) to leave it to us to deal with in our wisdom good judgment arbitrary discretion.

Or ignore the thread. :)

What about Sue Bird? I can't remember her freshman year all that clearly (out of the country part of that time). But I do remember hearing that once she tore her ACL, that was it for UConn's season.

What about Kim Mulkey ? Dawn Staley ?

Let's see... Toliver was phenomenal her freshman year winning the NC with her shot. There were several other frosh, Marisa Coleman was one, that had been recruited by UCONN- who also led that team to the NC. I remember thinking wow! Maryland is going to be amazing next 3 years, and... nothing. One reason I am not a big Brenda Frese fan.
Coleman was not a PG which is specifically the position in question.

Here's a name from the past about which I had all but forgotten, Rhonda Windham. Your reference to Kim Mulkey triggered the memory. Ms Windham's team won the national championship with her as its point guard in her freshman season. Ms Windham was an outstanding point guard.

Actually, Ms Tolliver's three pointer at the end of regulation tied the game against Duke in the national championship game which Maryland went on to win in overtime.

I'm pretty sure it was early in the season - about the 10th game - when Sue went down with the ACL.

My understanding, to further clarify, is that Sue Bird tore her ACL in practice during a routine drill, nothing stressful.

Simmons is on the Wooden list.
Irregardless of what we might think of her she doesn't belong on that list. Au contraire her game is very fluid and not at all wooden.

You must be confusing Toliver with someone else. For her career, she had shooting percentages of 44.7/40.8/86.6, and she broke the ACC's single-season assists record at Maryland. Simmons has been a volume shooter in the past, but she's having a really good season.
the discussion was regarding freshman campaign, not career stats.

If I'm remembering right, Sims was the only one of those to have a really stellar game against UConn in her freshman year, so that may be coloring things.

Then she wins!

I have to say that what Jones is doing is very impressive. She has a very good all-around game and should be the national FOY. One thing that she has in her favor is a strong body. She can go into the paint and take contact yet still be effective. I'm a HUGE fan.

I vote for Brittany Hyrnko. The kid scored 18 points and single-handedly kept her team in the game vs UConn. And while Katherine Harry is a very good player, she's no Brittany Griner.

If I could choose a player from another BEast team to add to UConn's roster, I'd consider Hrynko for her skills and her moxie. Love that kid.

She is a good one. She also has 6'8" in the paint. Graves has had to do it without a center at times.

Jones is the guard for Duke. She doesn't have 6'8" in the paint. She had to take over point guard, much hard than just banging down low, as Graves has done.

That was a tongue-in-cheek comment. Sims has certainly benefitted by BG's presence but she would be great regardless.

Is Graves a PG?

I didn't get to see her play. I wish I had based on your endorsement.

Yes I think there are four or five that can win FOY.
