As disappointed as most UCONN fans are with the multiple L s to ND this year, i keep hearing the loss being blamed on offciating, lack of a seasoned Point guard, and even coaching; but in reality you have many things to be commended for having like growth potential, developing talent, Geno, Tuck (truly a gem), Dolson, KML, Farris hardest effort in her final go around, etc.

I think bracketing might be the real deal changer.

Regarding the point guard scenario, i think Hartley managed well last year but has had a rough current year, but MoJeff really needs a fighting chance. Being that hartley and Doty are having a rough year, i wouldve appreciated MoJeff, being the highest rated PG in hoopgirlz history, would have demanded more playing time. I can't imagine that Sims, Diggins, or any other elite point guard would have taken this deal...with no significant development time on the playing field.

I thought that would have been settle long ago., despite the loss of Banks putting off the inevitable need for an elite facilitator of the game.

I think that made a huge difference in the year, i pictured MoJeff starting by January at the latest.

regarding the poll, this is why i chose Sims, with A Jones a close 2nd.

i think elite point guards show up in big games, take their teams to championships and show up on day one.

Sims debut was awesome in Hartford, where she caused a stir and took over the PG position after or senior PG left the team.

Sims led our team as a freshman to 2 conference championships with Griner, as compared to our previous PG who couldnt lead our team to those 2 championships with Griner in the post.

Sims ended the year in the elite 8, where TAMU doubled and overwhelmed her.

Diggins wasn't a pg her frosh season. Lechlitner was the pg. Diggins was converted to the pg for her soph season.

Players at UConn don't "demand" playing time - they earn it. If Sims, Diggins, or other elite point guards demand playing time, then obviously they weren't a fit at UConn (for a number of reasons).

If Jefferson was ready, she would get playing time. You see it all the time with UConn freshman. They may not start, but they get playing time (i.e., Maya Moore, Diana Taurasi). It's not up to Geno to determine who plays - it's up to the players and how much time and effort they put into it. I'm not saying Jefferson didn't put in the time or energy - but she was obviously doing something that Geno didn't like.

The intrusion of Baylor fans back into the board is irritating many. Most of us have little interest in discussing aspects of Baylor's personnel, etc. except for how UConn needs to address them. I suggest the ESPN board for any Baylor fans wanting to focus on the this or that of Baylor.

Respectfully disagree, Ice. Most opponent boards don't see the traffic the Boneyard does, so maybe the fans come here to chat during the "dead" periods.

If we circle the wagons and cease to be welcoming to opposing fans who wish to discuss general b-ball stuff (coaching moves, player comparisons, bracket scenarios, etc.), the Boneyard gets one step closer to being the Orange Board. No one wants that.

Edit: And we've just discovered polls. We have to get the drug out of our system before things can return to normal. ;)

The polls have been used from the beginning. Wonkster and Eric have posted them periodically for a long time.

My point isn't that fans aren't welcomed, especially when discussing general topics, just that the point of this board is not the continual insertion of Baylor, Tennessee or any other team into every thread. Nan has noted the recent propensity among a couple of Baylor fans for this pattern. It is tiring and irritating at times. Baylor prof is a great example of timely and welcomed participation. Saki and cardfan, as well.

1. Fans of other teams are welcome.

2. UConn fans who think the fans of other teams talk too much about their own teams are welcome:

. . . a) to send us private messages about it; or

. . . b) to leave it to us to deal with in our wisdom good judgment arbitrary discretion.

Kristi Toliver. Let me know when someone else wins a national championship as a freshman starting point guard.

Ladybears4eva rarely post here, but when she does she gets her money's worth.

I am the only Baylor fan to have worn out a welcome or stunk like a fish, to my knowledge. So please don't take out your frustration on LB4E.

ETT gets a little carried away sometimes but backs off when asked. His occasional slips aren't because he's a Baylor fan, after all, we have UConn fans here that can be annoying at times too, nor are they common to all Baylor fans. I'm pretty unhappy to see a Boneyarder try to make a fan of another team feel unwelcome.

People that aren't moderators should leave the moderating to us. For the record, that's JS, Biff and me.

Wasn't moderating was stating my opinion and that of others that it gets wearying and irritating. If folks don't state it then no one knows how it is sometimes being perceived and self correction is difficult. That's all, JS has now suggested a not to him in private and that is the path I'll follow. I wasn't speaking of ETT, although as you suggest there have been moments.

This is not going to please traiddukefan either, but North Carolina in 1994 won the national championship with a freshman point guard.

Since I'm a UCONN fan first, I have a hard time remember what kind of freshman campaign Simms or Grey or Diggins had. I didn't follow Moore at Nebraska at all so I am not one to have an opinion on who had the best freshman season.

Having said that, if Toliver, for all the heat she took on here for being a Simmons-like volume shooter, if she truly led Maryland to a NC her freshmen year, then she deserves the kudos for that.

Gray had a tremendous Freshman season.... although she had to deal with injuries. Shared the backcourt with a All-ACC Combo guard in Jasmine Thomas... so her overall stats might not look so gaudy. Looked it up... she had 18 games with double digit scoring... and she did hit some big shots down the stretch in a few close games. You could tell she was gonna be a star when she could run the show herself..... and she lived up to that billing her sophomore year.

Looked up the stats on Jones. She was averaging around 8 points a game before Gray went down... In the 6 games since..... she has averaged 17.2 pts, 6.2 assists, 5.3 rebounds, and 1.0 steals per game. Throw in an ACC tournament MVP and she also garnered All-ACC academic honors for good measure. She's gonna be a joy to watch the next 3 years.

Dunno if she led the team to the title... they really did have a very talented starting 5.....very balanced scoring.. all 5 starters were double digit scorers..

I believe Toliver hit the winning shot as time expired.

Let's see... Toliver was phenomenal her freshman year winning the NC with her shot. There were several other frosh, Marisa Coleman was one, that had been recruited by UCONN- who also led that team to the NC. I remember thinking wow! Maryland is going to be amazing next 3 years, and... nothing. One reason I am not a big Brenda Frese fan.

While they werent amazing..... they were still very good the next three seasons. Elite 8 in 2008 and 2009... first ACC tourney championship in 20 years in 2009. Looked up the records. 2007: 28-6... 2008... 33-4... and 2009 31-5 Not exactly nothing.

You must be confusing Toliver with someone else. For her career, she had shooting percentages of 44.7/40.8/86.6, and she broke the ACC's single-season assists record at Maryland. Simmons has been a volume shooter in the past, but she's having a really good season.
