Freeman possible visiting friday

I find it really hard to listen to Matt Schonvisky with his long pauses between sentences. It's excruciating. I didn't love Mark Zanetto either but I think I preferred his style to Matt. On the positive side I like Rob Dauster from Field of 68. I also like the guys from Sleepers Media, Carter Elliot and Greg Waddell. They aren't UConn fans per se but they respect UConn and Hurley.
Greg Waddell is kind of annoying. Not sure what it is but listening to him makes me feel like punching him.

Dauster always looks like he is stoned off his ass.

I can't decide whether it's because he's using a crappy ring light or if he's actually just stoned off his ass.

The channel just has too many hot takes. Greg beating the “Tarris sucks” drum for like two full years when it was obvious how good he had become. There was another guy that for months wouldn’t shut up about how he thought Malachi smith would start and Demary would come off the bench and wasn’t very good (which was just as dumb of a take back then as it is now).
That’s exactly right! That’s why I can’t stand Greg. He did hate on Tarris for 2 years

Come on man - he gives mad props to Hurley. He was not high on Reed because he was not that good at Michigan. Reed did great things for us, but it took him awhile to get to that level, and I attribute it to the coaching staff developing him. By tourney time Greg could not say enough good things about Reed and publicly ate crow. Just because some guys say we sucked when we lost to Creighton and Marquette and had too-close games with Providence and Georgetown, doesn't mean their biased - we actually deserved the criticism (and there was a ton of it on this board). I'm a diehard UConn fan as everyone here is (well almost everyone) - but I get sick and tired of "everyone is against us" conspiracies.
I think this is really Greg writing this response bc how could you defend that clown.

How did Hurley and co whiff so badly on Nowell? Obviously going for an undersized PG was probably not the greatest idea in hindsight, but what did they see in him that they thought could make up for his size deficiency?
High School recruits are often locked in before they even play their senior year. Coaches are evaluating a 16-17 year old kid. After Castle committed he kept getting better and better. Illinois had an incredible freshman PG wagerman this year. He was not highly rated by scouts at all. Boatright was 5-9 and he had no problem as a freshman. Outside of the top 20 players there is going to be a lot of variance in how good the player turns out.

Not anymore - coaches are watching them extensively in the summer circuits against peers, kids are committing later and later.

This staff isn't bullet proof as it comes to recruiting. It's hard. Abraham, Nowell were complete whiffs, Mahaney a total whiff. Furphy, Reibe now kinda looking like it too.

Honestly as it comes to HS recruiting, not sure you do more than 2/year, one should be top 15 and the other should be a very selective fit for the system.

He was definitely wrong about Smith but I recall Greg and Carter both predicted Reed would have a monster year and if UConn competed for a title again, Reed would be a big reason why. Fore much of the season it was hard to say how right they were but by the end it seems prophetic.

Reibe is a whiff because he left? His talent was not a whiff and he and Hines would have been great together but in this NIL and portal business no player promises what they will do.

Yes, he was a whiff. We recruited a kid that wants to face up and take jumpers, that wasn't great at the core essentials like a great pick/rebounding. There wasn't a ton of 5's out there, so you can only recruit what's available but clearly there was a gap in what he wants to do and is good at and what we do in our system. Intangibly, he bolted on a staff that develops bigs better than anyone. Whiff.

Take a look at Hines - thick, low center of gravity 5 that will be able to set a great pick, roll and rim protect.

It is a very safe prediction to predict a parallel between success and the center play in Hurley’s system that had great center play in each successful year. I find lots of things those dudes say about UConn based on very high level knowledge of the team.

By high level I assume you mean surface level? I don't expect B1G fans to have in depth knowledge of Big East teams. My point was they were high on Reed to start the season. Greg was very skeptical of Reed when he first left Michigan, but hard to blame him when he struggled there. But he didn't just stick to his guns and hate on Reed forever. When it appeared he might be poised for a breakout season, they admitted it. They could have doubled down on their skepticism so I give them credit for calling Reed's success.
