I watched both games.......in addition to a few airballs, there were some real bricks thrown up there......There were too many air balls to be solely blaming the rims.
It wasn't just the rims. Not having enough practice time in the venue can mess with players' lines of sight. Geno mentioned this too. There were too many air balls to be solely blaming the rims.
Azzi said that they practiced there on Thursday, however did not get to do the game day shoot around yesterday, which is utter crud. I saw Azzi's slight reaction to a shot in warmups, and it was telling. Hopefully now that they've played one game, things can get sorted out.It wasn't just the rims. None of this is new, especially for Geno and UConn. This is the current format and it has been the format. Geno’s players have rich AAU backgrounds, basically a system of “where do we go now”. I bet they’ve even slept in gyms between games. My team in Bush, Alaska played in a 16 team regional, 8 girls 8 boys. Winner goes to the states in Anchorage. We slept in classrooms on the floor and ate cafeteria food for 3 days. We practiced when they told us to.Anyone who’s played basketball on “hard rims” knows it can get into your head, making you think you have to be perfect, i.e. “nothing but net.” The other thing Geno mentioned was the bizarre early practice time, forced upon UConn by having 8 teams in one SuperRegional.
UConn will practice today, around the 2 Sweet 16 games slated to start at 12:30 & 3:00, probably tonight sometime. But again, it’s an unnatural practice schedule for a team scheduled to play tomorrow at 1:00 pm.
No practice time for getting sightlines. There were too many air balls to be solely blaming the rims.
He's speaking up for every coach. He's the one that can.None of this is new, especially for Geno and UConn. This is the current format and it has been the format. I’ll ask the question again: what’s Geno up to? Is he trying to get in ND’s head? What about UConn’s head? I would personally keep this crap to myself.

I beg to differ. The new “Super Regional” format for WBB has only been in place for 3 seasons. Geno’s criticism is twofold. Practice time with 8 teams at one location is a problem. In addition, travel for many teams is longer and more expensive.None of this is new, especially for Geno and UConn. This is the current format and it has been the format. Louisville and Michigan have scored a total of 7 points after five minutes.
Of course I respect Geno’s opinion about the problems with the tournament. He’s the foremost authority on anything WCBB. The coaches should be consulted before any large decisions are made. This isn’t AAU tournaments in Bush, Alaska. These are the top teams in WBB, and Geno feels that the players have been sold short by the decision to go from 4 regionals to 2 super regionals.
In the NCAA regular season, I believe it's up to the home team to supply the basketballs......they need to be in excellent game-ready condition but don't have to be brand new......The NBA and WNBA use brand news balls for every game they play.........those balls are given a bit of a workout before the games to eliminate any slickness and are filled to a psi range of 7.5 - 8.5 to give a solid and reliable bounce.....not too high and not too low......you'd think the NCAA wouldn't be using slick balls that bounce like playground balls in their premier tournament...To Geno’s point, the balls they used were brand new as well.
Mikayla Blakes’s late game turnover, as well as the “many air balls” could be attributed to that.
And there's the rub. Thinking and hoping that the NCAA would or wouldn't do something. In the NCAA regular season, I believe it's up to the home team to supply the basketballs......they need to be in excellent game-ready condition but don't have to be brand new......The NBA and WNBA use brand news balls for every game they play.........those balls are given a bit of a workout before the games to eliminate any slickness and are filled to a psi range of 7.5 - 8.5 to give a solid and reliable bounce.....not too high and not too low......you'd think the NCAA wouldn't be using slick balls that bounce like playground balls in their premier tournament...

Frankly, I think it may be more about the sight lines and the lack of practice in the facility that's causing the three-point shooting issues.........and how about the pressure of playing in high stakes, winner take all games and some pretty good defenses......Michigan wins
Final three point shooting stats. Louisville 3-14, Michigan 4-13
