Bro. You claimed Earl Grant could recruit “at an elite level” because he was on staff for four mediocre to terrible classes at Clemson and a four-year span at Wichita State in which they failed to make the tourney once.

You’re without question the last person here who should be calling me out on a poor understanding of the college basketball landscape.

Also, wasn’t this the thread you were hyping up Eric Konkol in? How’d LA Tech look this year?
Stairs, you just needed to have more faith in UCONN basketball and that the administration would do the right thing. Some of us did and we are very happy with the direction the program is going in now.

I think he has you on ignore brah.... Just saying

But am definately happy for you to be wrong once again;).... this reverse jinx mojo we got going with you stair is gold my friend.

Please start a thread on how we won't win another title

Already working on the “cat lady is a psychic, we’ll be in the NESCAC by 2025” one!

I missed the whole welch thing. don't care. SJ called this months ago

You have to care that was one of the most epic call outs in BY history.

i missed it completely. i don't even know what the whole thing is about

Knowing what I did about how AD Dave approached contract negotiations with basketball coaches in the past, it was definitely reasonable to be pessimistic about how the administration would handle it. The fact that he pulled it off had nothing to do with you being optimistic or me being pessimistic.

If you'd read the last couple of pages, you'd know that I'm just as happy as you are -- perhaps more so.

The beginning of this thread aged well...

God man, this is the thread that got me to ignore stairmaster – I'd totally forgotten about that kid! Funny to look back and see how wrong he was about literally everything.

I wonder if there's a way to track who the most ignored person on the boneyard is. Gotta be between him, freescooter & JSM I'd imagine.

Oh, god, no. I doubt he’s even in driving distance of those two. JSM probably has three different usernames with more ignores.

And you’re completely underrating how much people hate Whaler and Serrano.

But it’d hard to as wrong as he has been on the Ollie stuff.

For the final time. Stop speculating, Kevin Ollie is going nowhere for the next 2 yrs. I know the administration at UCONN is trying to save money/balance budgets. The governors election is next yr. The UCONN athletic department is hemorrhaging money. David Bennett was brought in to stabilize the finances, so far he fail big time with his first major decision in football. He cannot fire Ollie without approval from the Susan. Susan will not give it because if the GOP wins the governors (likely) in 2018. UCONN will have a bull-eye on its backs in the budget cuts. They will cite waste and the first example will be paying $10 million to replace Ollie. Herst's job might even be in jeopardy if the team and attendance craters after Ollie. They are even talking about shutting down part of UCONN health due to the budget cuts. Kevin Ollie is the best choice for UCONN and Connecticut going forward. Stop your wishful thinking
Great call, lol.

So @tentoes4rings, was it Whtdmd's "... Kevin Ollie is going nowhere for the next 2 yrs." or he's "... the best choice for UCONN and Connecticut going forward." which prompted a laugh?
Both and more DA! Calling Benedict Bennett, saying he's going nowhere, and the best one, that "Herst's" job could be in trouble if the team and attendance cratered AFTER Ollie. The program had more craters than the moon under Ollie, attendance and performance couldn't get much worse. Here's to pronounced optimism that Hurley is going to give us something to be very proud of again soon.

I credit Stain for finally coming around on KO and admitting he was wrong.

But the whole evolution in opinion was the strangest mix of pollyanna optimism about KO juxtaposed with this bizarre fatalism about the long-term cachet of the program.

Getting Hurley should put both of those to bed.
All but those in KO's family came around. The title bought leeway, more for some people, less for others. And then the last two years had a slew of injuries. I was skeptical of his coaching in 2015 and 2016, but hoped he'd grow because he could clearly motivate his players and recruit.

But even those things proved false. If he had the same record, but not the ridiculous blowout losses, I would have been sympathetic to another year myself. Mostly because of the buyout. But getting absolutely slaughtered again and again...yeah I figured he needed to go but still worried about that buyout.

Thankfully Benedict was able do what needed to be done when it was clear to most reasonable fans it needed to be done.

As I watch the NCAA tourney, I realize that making the tourney within 2 years isn't a big stretch. We have the tradition, facilities and a very good coach to make it happen. Hope has been restored and I am very excited for a return to UConn basketball.

It will be interesting to see how the roster shapes up for the coming season. We have lots of pieces with promise and if Coach Hurley can get them to play as a cohesive unit, this season could be really fun to watch. I can't even put into words how happy I am to have Coach Hurley running the program.

did @August_West ever publish his list of quitters and bad fans?

and is AD David Benedict on that list?

Did I miss that thread?

Tip of the hat @lange10, Nov 26, 2017 ... you made the call in message # 4 in this thread ... and sadly things further declined to make right now today.
Sheesh. Tough look for me right there. Roller coaster of emotions throughout Ollie's tenure and at times I spoke/posted irrationally in the heat of the moment. But trust me I was on the Hurley to UConn hype train very early (see my tweets).

Is this video post firing of Ollie? It's good to see he's still in good spirits. He truly bleeds blue, wish it could have worked out better.

It's from today. Ray was in the NBA Store for the release of his book and I guess KO showed up. Had I known I would have stopped by.

Good Lord, let it go. KO is gone and for good reason. Why this need to try rehabilitate is image and history. Ok, he bleeds blue...we get it. So do literally thousands of other athletes as well. Bottom line: he sucked at his job and nearly destroyed a premier basketball program in the process of bleeding blue. Good riddance.
