Football Assistant Roles?

From the Charlotte website:

John Morookian enters his first season leading the complete offensive line at Charlotte and his second on staff overall. In his first season with the Green and White (2023), Morookian was charged with the development of the offensive tackles and tight ends.

In his first year with the 49ers, Morookian oversaw one of the team's strongest offensive units. The tight ends accounted for 35 percent of the team's receptions and 33 percent of the team's receiving yards.

For the first time in school history, a tight end, Colin Weber, led Charlotte in receptions. Weber also set the single-game record for receiving yards by a tight end with 117 vs. Memphis. Three of the team's top receivers were tight ends. The unit also keyed a running game that improved by nearly 30 rushing yards per game over the previous season.

Prior to coming to Charlotte, Morookian helped Michigan to an undefeated Big 10 Championship in 2022 and a berth in the College Football Playoffs.

Before his time in Ann Arbor, Morookian was the Offensive Line Coach at Akron in 2021. In 2020, he was promoted to Offensive Line Coach at Kansas after initially being hired as Offensive Senior Analyst.

He spent the 2018 and 2019 seasons at Iowa State as an offensive quality control assistant and helped the Cyclones to consecutive bowl games. Iowa State regularly appeared in the national rankings and won 23 games during his time there. In 2018, the Cyclones went 8-5, broke the school record for conference wins in a season (six), posted their best conference finish in 40 years and advanced to the Valero Alamo Bowl.

He was also a graduate assistant at Indiana (2017) and his alma mater, Toledo (2014).

In 2015 and 2016, Morookian was the offensive line coach at Tiffin University, a Division II school in Ohio. Tiffin recorded an 8-3 record, averaged 434.5 yards of total offense and scored 31.4 points per game in his final season at the school.

In 2014, Morookian was on Matt Campbell's Toledo staff as a graduate assistant, helping the Rockets go 9-4 and earn a berth in the GoDaddy Bowl.
He began his coaching career as the tight ends coach at Findlay (Ohio) from 2012-13.

A native of Providence, Rhode Island, Morookian was a four-year starter on the offensive line for Toledo from 2008-11 where he played in two bowl games and started 49 straight games at right tackle. He earned his bachelor's degree from Toledo in 2011.

Great ties to New Jersey schools. Served as an interim HC multiple times. Has been discussed as a future HC. No real feel for his coordinator abilities.
I see he moved back and forth between QB and TE coach the last two years. Interesting. Not sure if that means he has more experience or something negative. Enough speculation on my part. Time to get the in-laws from the airport.

Really like this hire by Candle. I heard former UConn linebacker Dave Schuman, who now runs a football camp in New Jersey, talk a few weeks ago about all the great tiies Campanile & his brother have in New Jersey. Sounds like he’ll be a great recruiter here.

Hypothetical, WAG at possible recruiting geographic focuses:

All: Candle, Ryan Manala DC AJ Harrison Dir of Recruiting, et al. (obviously OH/MW & W PA Candle, Manalac, maybe Moorookian OL due to multiple MW stops),
FL & GA: Kerry Dixon WR
NJ, E PA, NY: Nunzio Campanile QB/OC 2nd-in-command to play caller Candle.
DMV: Campanile? Manalac? Others TBD?
New England, prep & high schools: Manalac (leveraging Bucknell prep & NE recruiting background), John Morookian OL.
TX: ?
Carolinas: TBD, maybe someone in addition to 1 year in Charlotte Moorookian.
Recruiting: AJ Harrison Dir of Recruiting & Player Relations, plus TBD?
GM: Zach Potter
DC & other position coaches & regional recruiting focuses TBD

I wouldn't be mad if Candle keeps Wilcox as RB coach. He seems to be a keeper. Same for TE coach Christian Pace...

Should also be an interesting week coming for all the defensive coaching hires. Need an impact DC
