Football Assistant Roles

Apparently Candle called the plays at Toledo and has been resistant to give up that responsibility. Not that it was ever likely Sammis was coming back, but I would assume that would be the nail in the coffin for possible retention.
In my opinion, with UConn's resources, you want your head coach to be offensive minded because it is hard to keep and retain a good offensive coordinator. Unfortunately, one of UConn top coaches and a main reason for success was the OC, Sammis. I would think that a P4 school would target Sammis for OC given what he has done over the past 2 years.

Toledo coaching staff

Weiner- Co-offensive coordinator and QB coach for six seasons. Interim HC for bowl game.
Hallett- Co-ofensive coordinator and O Line coach
Eliano- DC for the bowl game. Last two seasons he was CB coach and was defensive pass game coordinator in 2025.
DBs have been a strength for Toledo, would not mind Eliano coming over. Toledo just filled their opening with the Mercer coach so should be interesting if he wants to stick with the current FBS coaches or bring his FCS guys with him.

I wouldn't be shocked if there are announcements of who will be joining even if they aren't starting the job until after the school's bowl games. (From a continuity standpoint I can't imagine they'll have new and old staff's mixing at Fenway)
I suspect sammis may be the only one with in the incentive to stick around through the bowl

Do we know yet what the salary pool will be for our assistant coaches? Don't believe I've seen it posted anywhere...

Anybody following Kashif Moore's socials? Chatter is he's joining the ex-coach out west. Would've been nice to keep a UConn player as a UConn coach, but at this point we're looking at a total regime rebuild, so as long as we're getting good/competent people who really want to be at UConn, that's all we can hope for as fans.

I would think Doug Shearer could stay at UConn. UConn grad, has done a good job, seems active in recruiting, and Toledo's special teams coach went to Kansas St.
If Shearer’s Miami OH special teams performed well, perhaps a better chance.

It's not 11:20am EST yet, but I figure 20 minutes from that time we'll get an update on any possible assistant coaching additions... (let's up hope so anyways)

I think we are waiting for the dam to break on the Toledo staff that are coming to know a good amount of the staff. I am most interested in who he hires to fill the positions that he isn’t/can’t bring with him and gives him the connections in the northeast among other recruiting grounds his staff lacks

I'd love to have him here, but if that's not going to happen, I'm glad he has the opportunity to continue coaching.

If they follow Coach Candle I’ll be happy.

I think he will probably take a lot of Toledo guys with him and especially I would think it would be a lot of support staff members. That staff has been around each other for a long time and when Candle became head coach the former coach Matt Campbell took a lot of guys with him from basically every level of their staff

Jeezus jumped up Christmas...having coaching staff leave after 4 years to avoid a rebuild is one thing, but having new staff leave after 1 week during the rebuild reeks of a vicious smack to the face that even Krampusschlap would say is brutal. I was hoping the news of this from earlier this week was wrong.

He left for a B10 offer and all of the assistant known to not follow him have P4 jobs so it is tough but it was something that was tough to stop and I doubt Candle feels betrayed
