Can we stop with the Tristen stuff? SD is not TN. Hassan was never the PG Malachi already is. Love HD but he was a different player. He was never an option to start at PG.
Expecting significant growth from a PG in his first year of the most complicated offense in college bball, especially a guy that came from essentially no offensive system at UGA, is completely normal. He’s had flashes and I can almost guarantee you he will be a hell of a lot better come March.

This is exactly how it went with Newton. Some of you have the memory of a goldfish.
I remember clearly. You seem to forget its two different players. When TN was here we simply didnt have a better option so he was thrown to the wolves and had to take his lumps. Dan Hurley has the option of taking some of the pressure off and let him come off the bench and work things out and get himself back into the starting spot.

Wasn't pretty but great win.

So far, including exhibition, UConn has played 6 Kenpom top17 teams (as of today):

MSU (exhibition/home, #12)

BYU (Boston, #10)
Zona (Home, #5)
Illinois (MSG, #9)
KU (@KU, #17)
UF (MSG, #15)

I know the MSU game doesn't count but the point is this UConn team is really well tested against teams it could face deep in the tournament.

The only other BE team in the top 20 is SJU (#16) but the BE could have a lot of teams similar to first/second round teams.

Great win no matter. Thank god we shot it good in the first half because they killed us on the boards. Overall 19-15 because we battled which is great but 11 O boards can’t happen too many 2nd chances. Tarris started out great but not playing showed early his legs need to come back, nice to have him back though. Stewart great first half and Solo hit a couple late first half and late game. Silas struggled but he also made a big mid range and 2 FTs late. Malachi was our savior, tremendous game all around even helped out in giving Lee trouble 2nd half, 9-0 how can you beat that? Alex solid again a couple big drives and makes late, but we do need more than 2 rebounds outta you Alex. Reibe as always solid, kids gonna be a stud. Braylon please play defense with your hand in you jock and move your feet, knowing we need 20-25 minutes out of you. Those 3 mid range pull-ups are smooth and money. Ross helped out on Lee and made him uncomfortable, well done.

Texas is the next big one, no nights off!!

Great win!!!!

Yup. In the mean time he can figure things out coming off the bench.

I wonder if there’s a coach that Dan can talk to about inbounding tricks when teams start pressing hard late? It just seems like something his teams have always struggled with.

It is more about his role within a well-functioning offense. I think Malachi is more aggressive and creating on his own so there is less of an adjustment for him. But you want the change of style from Silas allowing the offense to run through the wings (especially once we get Ball and Mullins at the same time)
Couldn't have said it better.

I also want to give props to Ball. He lead the team in scoring with 19 and hit 3 of his 8 shots. He also continues to drive o thee basket and score. He is still a WIP on D but he is great player for us.

They’re running through an OOC gauntlet while working out the kinks - they have played very few games with a full compliment and they have areas to improve all over the court. Winning a bunch of quality games while you’re doing that is pretty much a best case scenario for the long run. There is zero reason to bench Demery.

Great distinction on Newton by the way. This whole time I just thought he changed his name to Silas. No idea they were two different people.

I watched the game without sound. It looked like a great game between two good teams with a lot of back and forth runs, but I was perplexed by a lot of the foul calls and non calls. I don’t think it was biased in any way I just thought there were a lot of offensive fouls that didn’t need to be called, and a lot of hacks on drives that were not called. There were many times when play stopped and I am like what happened? it was a physical game with lots of contact, but anytime Mullins or Boogie Flam made contact it was a foul. Seemed like Reed and Condon also played under a stricter set of rules than everyone else. I will give it another watch with sound, but seemed like very inconsistent refs.

Floridas big weakness is their backcourt. Fland is not a good PG. Maybe its because hes a freshmen and needs time to grow and who knows he may grow into the position and be really good as the season wears on but if he doesnt step up theyre not going to be a serious threat to make the F4 nevermind repeat. Lee although he had a great night only averages 8 per game and thats simply not going to get it done at the 2. You need a guy that can get buckets consistently. Their frontline is absolutely awesome. Among the best in the country. If they had our backcourt itd be lights out. Repeat would be likely.
Boogie is a Sophomore... He did his Frosh year w/The Squid last year in Arkansas.

Might be tough getting teams to play us in MSG in the future. It’s literally a home game. What’s are MSG record the last 4 years?
Huge payday for whatever program accepts the invitation and it's prestigious to come to NY and play there.

And UConn fans fill the seats, putting money in the owner's pockets. It's not going to stop any time soon.

Being benched 10 games into his first year isn't going to take the pressure off of him, you're just adding to it.

Does that mean teams won’t sign up to play in the SentinelOne Showdown or Jimmy V Classic, which are usually played at MSG, if we are one of the participating teams?

Silas is one of the last players I’m worried about.

At minimum he’s running the offense, giving us the size advantage we want, and defense.

We may not even need him at full capacity to win a championship with how deep we are. But wouldn’t be surprised if he could be an AA next year. Still think when it clicks he’ll be better than Newton.
