First Night

I did think we were not going to have mixed teams this year. I get worried about women, men, and egos every time.

Thankfully everyone behaved. I think the men have it firmly in mind if they injure a UConn WBB player they are pretty much dead!

Butler looks really good ..

Yup. That was the biggest pleasant surprise: Nat looks as if she's lost a quarter of her body weight, looks spry and ready to go. Kia is Charisma Capitalized, and Gabby is the Leader of the Pack--fun kid. Now we know how to pronounce Azure-ay (accent second syll.) If Geno plans to fit inside the hoop when he cuts down the NC cords, he better get Butler's diet plan . . .

Did the men realize that the women were on the floor with them? Nothing like throwing them a pass. Plus, what was with the white guys staying glued to the pines. They deserved a li'l love, too!

.-.
Gabby's first college three :)

It's only one, a minuscule sample, BUT. . .

. . . Rewind to March, UConn vs. Texas in Bridgeport.

We arrived very early and watched the free shoot-around. What caught my eye-test was the frequency and intensity of Gabby shooting treys. I was so impressed that I posted about it here on the Boneyard, expressing my hope that she might -- just might -- be adding a reliable perimeter shot to her talent arsenal.

When the games begin we'll see if I was prescient:) or just dreaming.

She looked comfortable taking them tonight. Still, I'd be just fine with her dominating with her scoring and passing skills inside the arc. Threes are a cherry on top.

I'm grateful to be able to watch, but production is so poor they have auto exposure set on the camera, which is why it gets so dark when a spotlight gets in the frame. I know, I'm not happy unless I'm whining about something, right?

Whomever said it first. I agree that Molly Bent is the real deal. She went against Crystal Dangerfield in the skills. Drained a 3 on the run. Although the guys just took their time, Molly and partner were in the lead. That is until Gabby and her partner won by 1 sec.
In the game, Molly played point and looked comfortable for a freshman. Blocked out. Got an O board and put back.
Yes sir, this Molly is a 10..

Are you nutty! Never settle Sluconn ... UConn "supporters" (Kevin Ollie's word) should never settle in the pursuit of perfect.

she is going to be a fan favorite very quickly..........almost every high school basketball player that also played soccer that I have seen plays like a maniac..........they hustle non-stop and dive for every ball...........add to that the fact that she has good bball skills and you have a winner!

Random thoughts: Nat looked better in all respects, and seems happier. Gabby is going to be pretty special, and very hard to guard. Men won't go far if they don't know how to share the ball better. Looked like a full house. Bent and Kyla didn't look like newbies. Crystal Dangerfield is very quick and multi-talented. This is a good thing.

Didn't UConn recruit someone around 2000 who played soccer and b-ball? Wonder whatever happened to her?

Heck, the triangle offense is fading away in the men's game not because it no longer works, but they seem incapable of learning it. These guys will fit right in with "the men's game."

Crystal threw 2 passes that were exciting and impressive- she looks flashier than Moriah. I thought Molly looked solid as well- good handle, confident. Natalie was running the floor more athletically, doubtlessly attributable to her new lean body.
It was a fun time- great to see Gampel packed, but when are they going to fix the ceiling? It looks shabby and bad.

prescient:)

Finally I know how to spell it. Thanks Kib. But, seriously, she knocked my socks off tonite(still trying to spell that), BUT Geno has too green light her.

On my way into Gampel around 5pm I saw CD in front of the Werth center talking to 2 very tall young women, directing them where to go- assumed recruits, but not familiar enough to identify.

And the crowd ate it right up. A collective "OHHH" in the crowd I caught twice. Just like those "wow" moments Moriah would have while doing soemthing so beautiful with the basketball. Guns really is the real deal and I think we are in for a big treat the next 4 years.

The rest of WCBB...Head bang
