Fire PP

A lot of blame to go around today, but PP is the captain of the ship. And it's not like we were playing Louisville. We lost to a MAC team (all their players were MAC recruits) at home.

UConn loses consistently to MAC teams. It is becoming a tradition.

No matter what a kid on scholarship needs to be able to convert a 28 yarder. There is no excuse to miss field goals from 28, 36, 42, and 45 yards. No excuse.

Agreed. 100%. Horrible. Inexcusible.

If a coach goes for it on fourth down when he has a chance to put himself up two scores with a 35 yarder, then THAT'S when I would want to fire him! What the hell do you want him to do? Go for it on fourth down in an overtime situation???

There is plenty of things to put on Coach P this year, but this game ain't one of them...

Disagree.
Yeah, I agree that maybe 4th down in OT isn't time to gamble, but let's face it...Chad sucked today and we all knew it. Crazy bad...like take away a scholarship bad.

But to say this game "ain't on Coach P"? Nope. It's on him. Let off the throttle. Again. Just like Buffalo. 14 points up and yup.....yawn.....back off.....let's take it easy. We all felt in in section 223. We knew it. We were right. Three quarters of listless football and Temple won. Disgusting. If you can't hold HCPP and GDL accountable, then you are either family or waaaaaay too close. Horrible.

How do you lose this game?
Just like all the others....just sit back and let off the throttle. Don't worry, 'cuz your D will win it for you....Oops. Not again!

I do not disagree with you but Edsall did not leave us too many good players at the skill positions.

Maybe so, but he did leave a veteran defense and last year there was a veteran OL ( they were good before PP got there). So it wasn't like PP started with nothing .i.e. Eastern Michigan, Akron ect. There was talent on the football team.

Everyteam in college football goes through this yearly. There are always holes to fill. The problem with this staff is that is that instead of progressing they seem to be regressing.

Now last year, the OL underperformed. It was a veteran line they were in a new system, so that can be understood. But this year, was supposed to be different. This year, PP gave GD the offensive line so that he could teach them his schemes. GD, the pro coach, really felt that he could do a better job than Foley. And considering their actions it is clear to see that they blamed Foley for the struggles last year. Now GD steps in, He had all of spring ball and training camp, and now 7 weeks into the season. The results speak for themselves. As PP likes to say throughout the offseason " we're teaching the fundamentals and techniques that make good football players." Are u really?

The coaching staff has really messed up this OL and there are no excuses. So for a uconn line thats mainly Jrs and Srs to get pushed around every game, even against umass is a disgrace. Temple just ran for 200 yards on our vaunted Defense and they are starting two true freshmen on the OL Whats the difference? Coaching, Not talent. Temple doesn't have more talent than uconn, they have better coaches. They lost most of their team to graduation, brought in like 30 2 star recruits, but guess what, their winning, playing competitive and their building. Can the same said for this staff? I can already see PP next year, talking about all of the players they lost last year. That's the game. Play busy, collect your salary, and find excuses every year.

thank you. seriously.

So agree. No more excuses, yet that's all we hear in every week's media conference on Monday. Excuses, and "we've got to execute." BS. Enough of this. Mister Manuel, please read and take heed...this school and its fans deserve more.

Where's the talent buddy? Please tell me where are top notch skill payers are hiding? You can't make chicken salad out of...
No you cannot. There has been however more than enough talent here for the past 1 1/2+ seasons to put together a two game winning streak at some point yet this staff has ywt to find a way to do this. There also was equal or better talent than at least 60% of last season's opponents yet the only time this HC had an above .500 record at his current job was during the week after we knocked off Fordham.

Most of what is on the field are Edsall's players.

Do you believe that the with the talent we've had during last season and the schedule we faced over that time, a two game winning streak would be too much to ask for?

How about when Temple kept getting to our QB....ever hear of a middle screen you genius.

Middle screen? They barely know a regular screen. That screen pass to run out the clock was the first screen I've seen this year.

I only remember 1 of those field goals being blocked. I've also commented (maybe it was on another thread) that I cannot believe that we still can't establish the run, so I have laid plenty on the OLine this year and this game. But he has to make one of those kicks. Period. This is the equivalent of a QB throwing 4 picks. One pick, you can understand. Two, okay, it's a bad day. But if our QB threw 4 picks today, everybody on this forum would be all over the kid like white on rice. So why isn't it the same for the kicker again??

When Temple needed a FG to win, they centered the ball. And they have a great kicker. Our attempts were from the hash. If you are going to play for the FG, I think you should make it easier on the kicker. Chad is much better the straighter the kick.

.-.
You guys are really reaching to blame this one in the coach. You wanted passing on first down you got it. You wanted a balanced offense I believe we passed more than we ran today.

What we saw was an offense in its infancy. I knew whitmer and the Recievers need time to gel. It is their first season together. To expect a wv offense in year one is so unrealistic it isn't funny. It will be good but in a few years so I see reason for optimism

Our defense got its but kicked when it needed to shine Noone mad at don brown. But we are supposedly elite vs the run and we got manhandled today.

Special teams and defensive pressure and creating turnovers. Where have u gone ? I guess Jesse and teddy were bigger losses than I thought because that when it seems the defense weakened significantly. Field goal kicker had a bad day. You could argue for the freshman but this guys missing slightly longer than extra points.

Go ahead and cry for a new coach but if you can convince yourself this loss was on coaching and play calling you saw a different game than me.

They coaches still needs to go! We're better than a 3-4 team!

Lose to MAC teams on the road too. What's the difference? Maybe our kids just aren't good enough.

Maybe our coaches ain't good enough! I know stars don't mean much, but Whitmer coming out of high school was a top (15) Pro Style QB and he was a 4* per Rivals.com

Shakim Phillips was a 4* WR and the #1 player coming out of NJ and your saying we don't have talent?? we have talent, so let's not defend the coaches!

What's dumber blaming Edsall or Cristian. Any staff worth a damn can beat Temple with these players without leaving it to their kicker.

They aren't. Most are Randy's Under The Radars. Who else wanted them at BCS level? But PP should have someone making a contribution somewhere. but no. fire PP.

Phillips, Williams, Davis and Griffin can catch the ball. Whitmer is more than an adequate thrower. McCombs can run the ball at times. People need to stop saying we don't have playmakers.

We have playmakers that coaches don't know how to use.

Dan knowing your players is actually a fair statement. Joe D inmhis post game show, said that Chad was having a tough week kicking and Thursday the training wheels came off at practice. We were not there of course but if this accurate then how else do u call this??????

Even if he was having a tough week, if he is the best kicker on the squad, then he gets the job. I think it was Jimmy Serrano who made a valid point that Puyol might not be ready, even if Christen had a bad day/week. So if Christen is still better than Puyol during bad weeks, then what do you want PP to do?

98% of the coaches in America decide to kick a 45-yarder to go up two scores with 3 minutes left on the clock and 4th-and-3. I don't care if others try to say otherwise, because it's simply the right thing to do...

I wasn't referring to the OT, I was referring to the 45 yrder and also the horrible punt that turned into a touchback. In OT it was already too late unfortunately.

I know you weren't. I should have been clearer in my response that I was referring to both situations as being situations that the vast majority of coaches would NOT go for on fourth down...

You can't say he backed off if he had them throw 6 times more than they ran in the second half, right? Because that is the breakdown in the run / pass playcalling in the second half...

Agreed that it would be easier, but we're not going to run a play to center a ball if we are trying to keep a drive alive. If PP did that, and then Christen misses, then I would have torn into PP in about 50 different threads...

...for now, I'll only tear into him on time management and letting that old fool take over the offensive line...

I have a better one than that. After our second TD, a long seam route by one of our TE's (Ryan Griffin), the second seam route ton him at that point (the first was not close to as long but still a very effective play), how much time passed before we ran that route again? How long before we threw another pass of any type to a TE?

Good question. I think that he only threw to the tight ends three more times after that (two were to Delahunt). I agree that we should use the tight ends more in our offense, especially since we use so many "two tight end" sets. It still doesn't change the decision making around when to kick field goals, though...

I strongly believe that PP and DL will still be here after this year which sucks balls!!

who prepares this team? who motivates them? who encourages them? who makes game day decisions? how about adjustments?

why do some coaches win everywhere they go, while others have one decent year in their last EIGHT as a head coach, including 5 bad years in a row?

the program is in a state of rapid decline, it falls on the man at the helm, as it should

Sue, end it now
