Final BE OOC thread 25/26

This team plays nothing like Pitino teams of the past. Outside of the track meet against Alabama they're boring. They don't create turnovers, the guard play isn't there. It's just a group of talented players with no identity at all. Really disappointing job by Pitino.

I'll be interested to see if he can get buy in or if some players eventually check out. Hurley should mop the floor with him.
Last years team generated a lot of extra shots through turnovers and offensive rebounds. They’d take 10+ shotS mort than their opponent. This teams is lifeless that way. Hopkins was a lousy fit. He’s a lazy shot hawk.

Worth mentioning, Georgetown just lost to a Xavier team at home who just lost to Creighton at home by a 100. Gtwon stinks - when will Cooley put a decent product out there? Marquette with another 20 point loss. That team isn't even competetive.

Our only shots at losing this year:

@Creighton
@SHU
@StJ

And not even sure those three aren't really winnable.

There are four buy games left that the league must win:

Butler vs NJIT
Creighton vs. Utah Tech
Georgetown vs. Coppin State
St. John's vs. Harvard

Torvik tournament percentages:

UConn: 100%
St. John's: 98.2%
Villanova: 78.8%
Seton Hall: 76.5%

Butler: 42.1%
Creighton: 32.6%

Providence: 0.9%
Xavier: 0.5%
Georgetown: 0.3%
Marquette: 0.2%
DePaul: 0.2%

If you do the simple statistical practice known as expected value, the league ends up with 4.3 bids as of today.

NET update:

UConn (7)
St. John's (28)
Villanova (30)
Seton Hall (34)
Butler (44)

Creighton (64)
Providence (99)
Xavier (120)
Georgetown (137)
DePaul (148)
Marquette (175)

P4 records by team (22-28 overall):

UConn: 5-1
Butler: 3-1
Seton Hall: 3-1
Xavier: 2-2
Georgetown: 2-2
Villanova: 2-2
St. John's: 2-4
DePaul: 1-2
Providence: 1-4
Creighton: 1-4
Marquette: 0-5

The Big East would actually be fine this season if St. John's wasn't such a huge disappointment even with Marquette being terrible and Creighton being so down.

Outside of UConn we don't have any top teams this season like the other power bball conferences but the other conferences have slop just like the Big East has slop.

Xavier, Creighton, and DePaul did fine out of conference against the P4 teams.

We really should have an awesome record this season. Anything more than three losses in conference would be disappointing.

.-.
So to get 5, Butler has to beat St Johns 1x and UConn one time. Does them beating Villanova or Hall do more harm to the Conference than good? Personally I'd rather have 4 teams as strong as possible than 2-5 interchangeable squads. Looks like 2-5 is most likely though. St Johns absolutely stunk!

Butler may not have to beat either of us. They are 9-3 with no bad losses and three P4 wins (including Virginia). They went 8-2 OOC so far with one buy game left. If they win that, they need to go 13-7 in the league to guarantee a bid. Not impossible, but slightly an uphill battle.

I ran a teamcast on Torvik for Creighton: assuming win over Utah Tech and a loss to Butler in the BET quarterfinals, if they finish 14-6 in league play (20-12 overall), they will be the fourth to last team in. This is assuming 2x losses to UConn and St. John's and a loss to both Nova and Seton Hall on the road.

For Butler: assuming win over NJIT and a loss to Nova in the BET quarterfinals, if they finish 12-8 in league play (21-11 overall), the will be the second to last team in. This is assuming 2x losses to UConn and St. John's and losses to Creighton, Villanova, Seton Hall, and Providence on the road.

For Nova: assuming a loss to Butler in the BET quarterfinals, if they finish 12-8 in league play (21-11 overall), they will be the last bye. This is assuming 2x losses to UConn and St. John's and losses to Creighton, Butler, Seton Hall, and Providence on the road.

For Seton Hall: assuming a loss to Butler in the BET quarterfinals, if they finish 12-8 in league play (22-10 overall), they will be the last bye. This is assuming 2x losses to UConn, St. John's and Villanova and losses to Creighton and Butler on the road.

For St. John's: assuming a loss to Butler in the BET quarterfinals, if they finish 12-8 in league play (19-13 overall), they will be a #10 seed. This is assuming 2x losses to UConn and Villanova, and losses on the road to Seton Hall, Providence, Creighton, and Butler.

On a funny note, with the St. John's prediction (and each of these are separate), Torvik has six BE teams in (the five above and UConn).

Wow.
So who does your Teamcast have winning it all??

Can we talk about how awful Marquette is? It's really so much worse than I could have imagined. This team is getting pounded.

Shaka's philosophy is outdated. That simple.

Fascinating. We should revisit this at the end of the season just for S___s and giggles. Can I pin this just for my purposes(how?)

I almost expect to lose to Seton Hall. We aren't going 20-0 or 19-1 so we will have to lose to somebody.

We have, they're the worst team in the league this season. Marquette leadership needs to sit down with Shaka and either get with the program or get that resume ready.

Hot take - 19-1, one healthy loss to either Creighton or Hall. We win that rest.

Out of curiosity, don't you need to run a teamcast for all schools (well, likely about 120 or so as a couple hundred are in one bid conferences) to determine where any of these school would end up?

Hot take - 19-1, one healthy loss to either SHU or Creighton.

I wouldn’t care if StJ doesn’t make tourney. I’m a UConn fan at this point, not a BE fan. Those days are over. It was fun when we had teams that actually had a chance to make runs. Those days look all but over.

They very well may be over, I am not sure. But what I am sure about is this year no Big East team besides UConn has a chance in hell of making the Elite 8, or dare I say, the Sweet 16.

These Big East teams are playing spoiler to UConn this season. Their games against UConn will be circled on their calendars and treated like their Super Bowl, especially their home games against UConn. Health, game planning, and strategizing will be important for UConn against these teams, as it always will be for every game. However, not to be understated, it will also be important for UConn to have the attitude to match or exceed the intensity of these opponents basically to say "you are not defeating us to give you a resume building lifeline, find another way to the Big Dance."

I agree, but they also stink. And this UConn team is really good and built to grind down opponents. I don't see many upsets.

After watching the first half today would you please take this back? I know they ended up winning by 18 but still.

You don't think any other Big East teams other than UConn will ever make any tournament runs ever again?

There is a shot we can lose to the top half of the conference as always, not like these teams are worse than Seton Hall team that beat us by 15.

But I’d be surprised if we take a loss in Q2 or worse. I’m expecting our losses all on the road to 3 of the Hall, Creighton, St. John’s or Villanova. If I had to choose, I think we sweep the Johnnies oddly enough.
