February General CBB Discussion Thread

Junior - I like what you're thinking here. I just don't think we'd pay up for him - TT has money, so if he's leaving he's going to the highest bidder, like Williams did leaving last year.

BTW - Silas is going to likely command a hefty tag for next year.
I mean whatever we paid for Alex, Taris and Braylon(likely) frees up. What we paid Alex and Taris should be enough for Toppin I would hope.

It’s wishful thinking

I don't know how Hurley would manage his budget, but he always seems to avoid the real big splash portal kid. Toppin would very much qualify, as he was 2-3 in POY behind Boozer. You're likely looking at 3mm or so if he's healthy. He is exactly what we'd need.

I’d sign up for Silas, Solo, TBD(Landrew?), Toppin, Reibe

That may be preseason number 1

I was thinking UConn had a head start on preseason number 1 anyway.

UM is going to lose the front court. AZ will lose Burries, Peat, Bradley and possibly Krivas. ISU loses JJ and TL. Duke will lose their big 3, maybe more. They'll always be up there. I'm guessing Scheyer's plan is having teams with freshmen/sophomore's annually.

Topin suffers ACL, out for season. Terrible break for TTech.

I can think of another BE that's gonna be pretty highly ranked preseason. We got bag too, soon everyone's gonna need a capologist. If they don't already.

That is just a stupid post by you.

There is a direct correlation of people who think cheap shots are cool and their level of cowardice in real life. Thank you for confirming that.
Anybody who watched the replay could tell that the UCLA defender was tailgating.

these crazy buyouts for non-elite coaches never make sense to me. I don't even think the elites should have this type of language in their deals but Mick Cronin and Jerome Tang having $22M/$18M buyouts is insane

It is amazing that you are not a top tier Athletic Director with your 20/20 hindsight.

Following the Purdue threads today they basically said last night's Michigan game was Uconn '24 all over again

What could he possibly mean by "city players vs. suburb players"? That was a 77 second video playing on stereotypes by a guy that doesn't know basketball and doesn't know AAU.

I’m gonna guess mark Titus knows more about ball and AAU than you, but just a guess. Even if he doesn’t, he certainly knows those things at some level. You say some weird stuff.

Do you really want to defend that video?

The sports bros like Titus like to go right up to the line of what will get them in trouble because there is a certain audience that likes that. It appears that some of the Boneyarders are part of that audience.

There’s nothing to defend. What he was joking about was a perfectly accurate description of my AAU experience in suburban CT. He wasn’t close to crossing a line unless you watch nothing but the PBS and Hallmark channels.

I could say a basketball is round and you would argue about it.

As always you miss the point. I simply responded to your assessment of his ball and AAU knowledge. I didn’t say anything about anything else, though you’re not making any point there either.

Should I be ashamed that I played AAU in middle school, varsity NEPSAC in highschool, and walked-on at a NESCAC school, with a new pair of Jordan’s every season?

No, but your acronym game is strong

Well while we were going through our meltdown Arkansas and Alabama lived up to the billing.

Double OT with Acuff going for 49 (had 41 at the end of regulation) and Philon had 35 in a way.

Amazing guard play in that game.

AJD with 16 at the half against Arizona but BYU is down.

DP has 20 at the half against OKie St in 16 minutes.

Arenas vs Wagler about to come on.

Got a chicken lemon Marsala and sauv Blanc to enjoy these hoops with and wipe that Creighton game from my brain for the rest of the night.

There are like 6 posts defending a video that would get most high school coaches fired if they said the same thing.

It is also not true. Youth and high school basketball has changed a lot in the last 10-15 years. Generally it is catholic vs catholic in the D1 state tournament after the second round on the boys at least, but the #1 team in Division 1 right now is Staples. Not exactly a city team. Ridgefield and Southington are also in Top 10 of D1. New Britain is #2 and Danbury #8 in Girls D1, but Greenwich and Southington are also in the Top 10 on the girls side. The Top 3 D2 girls teams are Rocky Hill, Trumbull and Staples.

Last year's boys D1 playoffs was dominated by Catholic Schools, but only two city teams, Hillhouse and Crosby, even made the second round of the D2 bracket. If you want to make Manchester a city team for this argument, then you have last year's D2 champion, but making that case is playing to the stereotype that I was talking about.

The kids work hard to get to a high level, they aren't just born that way as Titus' stereotypes imply, and AAU tournaments are by talent level, not city vs. suburb.

I’m not sure who plays for the catholic schools these days. But Kuran Iverson played at a Catholic school back in the day lol
