February General CBB Discussion Thread

Brutal loss. MSU and Zags, both perennially overrated, living up to the hype!

February is going to be awesome for college hoops

Fears at it again, dude is a mini Draymond, and Izzo got all indignant when May brought up Fears' dirty plays from their game this past Friday
Isn't this the most egregious trip?

Very dirty, unstable player. Not good for the game, that's DG 2.0. Illinois plays MSU this Saturday, I'm sure Illinois players have been instructed not to react on his nonsense.

Rough day for ranked teams. Gonzaga and MSU lost to terrible teams. BYU got dropped by OSU. Clemson was in a nail biter against Stanford

Not all doom and gloom as Illinois and Houston massacred Northwestern and UCF, and Louisville handled Notre Dame

Portland lost to 11-13 Washington State by 30 their last game.

Zags are perennially overrated.
They really are. I respect Few and what he’s done, but the current working of the metrics is a little annoying. We can firmly take them off any contender list along with MSU, Purdue and BYU. BYU is the same as last year, cannot defend and RW is overrated.

Yup, also in that same game against Mich he had a flagrant foul on Yaxel when he was about to go up for a dunk and another tripping incident against LJ Cason. Between the non-stop flopping and dirty plays he's unlikeable.

Is Illinois Your New fancy? We beat them easily without Mullins.
Sharing an interesting fact. This is CBB discussion board, no? They are a fun team. I don’t know why there is this sprint to defend UConn when there is zero attack on them. It’s weird, albeit not uncommon.

What is Few's secret sauce to work the metrics. A - he does all his damage in Nov/Dec. This is usually where teams with young or new talent take some time to get things going. Right now he seems to recruiting a lot of old international kids, and he does roll back a lot of players as his kids are just under the NBA cut. So he always has an advantage early season. While he doesn't run from anyone, he also seems to get a lot of very good teams, but not great. He has smart scheduling strategy for the types of teams he pulls together.

His secret sauce:
Good coach + good players = winning a lot of games by more points than most teams would win them.

Kelvin Sampson bemoans Houston NIL budget: 'We're poor'

"We have a very poor athletic department," he said. "We're poor. We were poor when I got here, and we're still poor.
"We probably have the lowest budget of anybody in Power 4. The way our recruiting is going, we have to stop at some point because we don't have the money to keep bringing in many good players. And that's not easy for us to do."

UM up 76-36

Some of these blowouts we are seeing this year seem all time OOC. It really is getting to a point where if you aren't watching top 15 teams play each other, there is little point in watching. There is a crystal clear delineation between teams that have a chance and don't at all this year. There are a couple of strays out there with talented players, like Arkansas & UNC, but totally incomplete.

Cincinnati sucks.

I wish they didn't, I like when they're good. They just aren't though.

I don’t really care about Cincinnati. But speaking of them, I was thinking the other day about how great it would be if Mick Cronin could get out of UCLA and take the Providence job when English gets fired. Providence is way more invested in bball and had great NIL this year. He’s a great fit for Providence because I honestly can’t believe he’s gone his whole career without tossing a full beer on the court from the coaches box.

Ruff Ruff’s team du jour……whoever is hot is who he is on. Has he even mentioned the dreaded M word since December????
