February General CBB Discussion Thread

The only way CBB gets fixed is by coaches and others continue to get loud about it. Everyone needs to do what he, Izzo and a few others are doing.
A hoops coach doesn’t have a voice to fix a thing. Football drives the bus.

Lots of talk about how great the Big 10 and Big 12 are, but then you have Michigan State and BYU losing to unranked teams. I don’t care what conference you’re in, if your power teams can’t take care of the unranked teams in their conference it just shows the reality that those conferences maybe aren’t as good as their numbers. The Big 10 hasn’t won squat in this century, but they always seem to find a way to put 8-9 teams in the tournament only to flame out. Michigan and Illinois look legit to me, but I’m not sold on the rest of that league to be honest.
MSU is probably going to take another home loss this weekend. I don’t think they’re top 20 quality. The final stretch of the regular season is going to be as good as I can remember. The cream is really rising to the top

Heard Mick wants to move on, and his agent has put feelers out there. I doubt he would go to Providence, but their NIL structure is a lot better than UCLA as of right now.
He would be a savior for Cuse but would he want to go there. It’s tough to leave Brentwood for Syracuse. Lol

I think Mick was flattered that mighty UCLA wanted him. I don't think he realized just how much that fanbase sucks and then everything changed around him in the sport and more of the program's warts appeared.

Syracuse, Providence and Cincinnati all care a lot more about basketball than UCLA does.

True - but he does get to live in LA out there, he's on the back endish. I don't see him leaving. I think he just likes to complain .

I don’t know much about Cronin anymore except that he hates his job and likes to cry about it in interviews

But my jaw would be on the floor if a coach who had a couple sweet 16s and a final four at UCLA who is a fairly successful coach in a power conference would jump ship to…PROVIDENCE COLLEGE

One of the best coaches in the history of their program left them high and dry for a conference rival. Then they hired a 35 year old that had a 9th and 5th place finish in the A10 as his only coaching experience

Cronin wants to leave but there’s something very wrong with his head if PC is on his list at all

.-.
The biggest problem is that Nov/Dec out of conference games are what determine how “good” a conference is perceived. Once you get in your conference bubble, the fate of how “good” your conference is has already been decided.
Did you read what I said? Yes, one can use an eye test to try to determine if one conference is full of teams with above average in season improvement. BUT that is by definition totally subjective and full of bias.

LA is a pro sports town. UCLA matters if y went there or when they play USC. The better the Lakers are the less folks care about Ucla

If ND opens up that makes way more sense for a Midwest guy

I work with and am friends with a number of UCLA alums who have season tickets, contribute to the program, etc. I don't know anyone who doesn't have a personal connection to the school that cares one iota about UCLA basketball.

Yeah, it's weird. It's not like they suck.

I find MSU to be unlikeable. Was there in 2009. Their fanbase sucks.
My wife and I were there as well. After the game they were screaming very inappropriate things at her and threatened me. We left before the final game. Their fans are generally 💩.

That, scalping fakes everywhere. Let's just say I wouldn't go back.

I thought this was interesting

No idea what is going on with Purdue these days but they’re up 1 on Oregon at home with under 6 to go. Tape is out.

Don't understand why Purdue keeps putting the ball in TKR's hands to iso instead of Braden Smith's. Oregon keeps missing good looks from 3 to really put Purdue in a hole.

Purdue trying to give Oregon this game and Ducks can’t capitalize. It’s the kind of game you feel Purdue pulls out.
