Nice run by Tommy Mellot. The guy just seems so happy to be playing football. He was practically skipping after their last TD.

I'm fine with either team winning, I'm just glad to see a good, back and forth game after such a one sided first half.

That will probably do it. Ended up a lot closer than I expected, but that TD right before halftime really was a killer.

Got a score, but that took a long time. Mellot wasted a lot of clock on scramble plays.

What? No return man so the clock runs out while the ball is dribbling around. If you are gonna go all out to block a punt, you better get there. I think that's a tremendously boneheaded call by the Montana St. brain trust.

A few questionable calls from Vigen down the stretch. I for sure would have kicked the field goal on that fourth down -- they got the TD, it worked out, but they were down 10. Take the 3!

And I get they thought their best chance was a blocked kick, but they gave themselves no chance by having no return man on that punt. Terrible decision IMHO.

Great game, though. Love the FCS playoffs and can't wait for Maine to win it all next year, lol.

Watched some of the second half, was an enjoyable game from teams I don't get to see much of (looked more like CFL game between Edmonton and Winnipeg based on the team colors). The speed on both sides surprised me, guys were flying around. Montana's last TD to get within 3 was a beautiful pass. Not having one man back to fair catch the ball to give time for a hail Mary was baffling.

With the dominance of NDSU & teams of the upper Midwest in general, I question whether teams from other areas can compete consistently in the FCS playoffs. The decision by the Ivy League to allow post season play is admirable, but the Ivies will be at a competitive disadvantage unless they give scholarships & make active use of the transfer portal. Other conferences will have to drastically step up their game if they are to even hope to break the current cycle.

Do you think many of the Ivy League athletes are actually paying for their education?

Why would they?

Those folks are having the time of their lives winning championships. Why trade that for life in some conference they don’t care about hoping to qualify for some marginal bowl on December 28th at 10 am?
many programs have realized just that and dropped back down... idaho for one.

You move up not because you think you can win but because you think your school benefits by being part of a different club

Idaho was kind of forced to drop.

The Vandals were backed into a corner in March, when the Sun Belt decided that it would not renew Idaho’s football-only membership past the 2017 season.

Idaho is the only program to do it in the last 30 years.

Fair enough. My opinion is that others should realize it too... UMass.

Edit: I wasn't sure if Montana had done it too
There was some talk about them moving up at some point, and they deliberately chose to stay FCS.

Earlier in the thread I mentioned a handful of schools--Marshall, Appalachian St., Georgia Southern and Sam Houston St. Which of them has benefited by moving up? I'd guess none.

marshall at best... GA Southern at least made more sense than GA State which made no sense.

UMass just was dealt another blow to their conference move with NIU moving the MW for football only.

You're leaving schools like JMU and Liberty off the list. Probably the most successful move ups. There have been quite a few more Coastal and UNCC.
