One of my favorite horn pieces:

Bigboote, I thought I was the only human being who truly enjoyed this group. Next thing you'll be telling us is that you listen to the Powdermilk Biscuit Hour.

I saw this band way back in '73 and once this topic came up it jumped to my mind.

Wow! I thought I was the only one around here who knew about Genya Ravan and Ten Wheel Drive. I saw them in 70 or 71 at my college. I wasn't very educated musically, and was blown away by their sound. Turns out Genya (not her real name was kind of a seminal figure in women's rock and roll. An earlier band she was part of was one of the first to feature a female lead singer, IIRC.

My all-time favorite is Mark Knopfler, who is NOT a horn player. His recent music, however, has come to feature lots of instruments, including some with horns. Imagine, if you will, Knopfler writing a song with a calypso beat, lots of horns and outrageous lyrics. Youi'd get "Heavy Up," from his last album. Have a listen, and check out the lyrics while you're at it:

Hoophuskee, there was only ONE Fats. Saw him in person in Pittsburgh so, so many years ago. Great musician and warm, wonderful human being.

Wow!!! That would've been amazing to see him live.

This version of "Lowdown".... the horns and everything else, just great
Love Lowdown and Silk Degrees is one of my favorite albums, but horns makes me think of this one especially when the horns just go off for the last 40 seconds or so.
