An NFL DC that whipped Ohio State and Alabama last year mind you. Nobody blinks an eye.

I also don’t think people would bother to reply to what I post if it actually didn’t make sense. I’ve seen how this board treats genuinely stupid posts. People respond because it makes sense while not being what they want to hear at the same time.

I have no problem challenging the coaches though many here do but maybe we should let them coach this team a bit before we drop the hammer on them.
As far as last year it took some time to realize that we had a deficiency at point guard. That was a recruiting mistake on their part.
My bet is that this year we will be pretty happy with both them and the players.

Sorry if it seems like I’m dropping the hammer. Not want I’m trying to do. I just talk about things I’d like to see improve that should be feasible.

We definitely shored up PG play after missing last year (something I saw coming as a non-believer @ the Mahaney experiment).

I agree this team has all the talent in the world to be one of the best in the country. We’re loaded with depth at every position. Hoping we get to see the very talented and great kids we have on the team play to their potential.

I’m surprised you haven’t latched onto Hurley’s interview after the first practice and his comments about his mistakes in the way he’s coached Ross.

I’m not an interview watcher personally, especially when they’re that long (think it’s like 10-15 mins edit: even worse 25 minutes).

Thanks for the heads up though as I might have to check it out now lol.

I think we can all agree that we are starved to see this team in action and then really have something to argue about. I just have a feeling based on who we have on this roster that we will really love this season. Once again I go back to “ did Hurley get the defense the way he wants it?” That is the whole ball of wax right there because frankly the “O” we’ve got it.

You’re making it seem like he passed it before but turned it over and was bad at it and got better. That would’ve been progression and working on something. No, he just attempted passing the ball after the losing streak. You can be silly enough to think what the coaches were teaching him just magically clicked after 3 and a half years.

I’m going to use common sense critical thinking to assume the coaches assessed the situation and saw that was one of the things that needed to be fixed. And Sanogo is a smart enough guy to easily take coaches direction because I’m going to give him that credit and not assume these players are these dummies where it takes 3 years to do something so simple.

Don’t know why I’m just seeing this. Addressing this Solo thing and retiring this convo as well.

He’s not going to be junior year Kemba if he had handles, but he can be an underclassman Boatright.

Calhoun’s PG training program used to take 3 years for any of those guys to get down and perfect so I know Solo won’t look like a great one just from his handles. But it’s a big start to him at least being able to reasonably play the position.

It’s also why I get annoyed when we don’t get guys going right away at that position out of all of them. Like we’re getting Solo going now so he only has 2 years (maybe 1 if he goes to the draft) to work on it instead of prepping him for this kind of role from day 1 when it’s the hardest position to learn because so much goes into it.

It’s like unless you’re a ready made day 1 player the only thing you can do on the court is shoot 3s and play defense before you’re allowed to grow your game and do anything else.

You've cultivated, developed and perfected one of the schtickyist schticks on the Yard...

The "I'm the one always watching every second of practice, independent off-season/in-season player development moments, one-on-one coaching moments, pregame warmups, and second of game for every single UConn MBB player...so I know all of the things they are/aren't working on, what they actually should be doing, the egregious disservices our coaching staff is doing by not forcing people to do tennis ball dribbling reps, etc."

Thank goodness you're retiring the Solo PG conversation now. Until you unretire it before the end of the day.

And they're certainly not letting any of us knuckleheads in! Remember the good old days when @Thirty Three would just walk into Gampel and watch the team scrimmage during the summer and fall before real practices started. Or when @DogMania and I talked our way into a few real practices. But with the practice facility they can button things up more than they did with Gampel. Plus I highly doubt Hurley would let anyone in.

I first saw Jacob Ross at Hoophall and I don't think he will be stuck as a deep bench player. He has the talent to see court time at UConn. He's not a lead guard playmaker, and I doubt he is a 3 point sniper, but he can give us what a Lasan Kromah did on the 2014 championship roster. I would trust him this year but we have too much in front of him to get on the court. I actually think Kromah is a good comp for him.
