It’s crystal clear at this point: we have a “key starter” and a “non key starter.” :D

/sorry…flashbacks

OMG if there is a press conference with all 4 QB's - Mora seems well-versed enough to not repeat any of the crazy, though.

I.e. there's still no obvious number 1 QB.

Well, the longer this goes on the longer it seems like Roberson isn't separating from the pack. He was clearly rhe leader heading in to fall camp based off of spring. He now has three new QB's who either weren't on roster or weren't healthy to compete in spring ball.

Coachspeak by Mora of talking about QB's putting the ball on the ground....

I normally associate that coachspeak with fumbling. Can this also be extended today bad passes leading to dropped balls?

As one who freely admits to loving to read between the lines and speculate during preseason I go back to a reporters notes from earlier this week about Millen still not having thrown a pick in practice this fall.

Red Zone TO's are a killer and something a team looking to improve can't be doing.

I’ve viewed a few of the Charlton interviews from yesterday and I was watching his body language, where available. I think he really, really likes Zion and can’t believe his is only 18. He definitely believes that the QB room has been a huge upgrade. I think he is very excited to see what he has in game.

Unless he's thinking that's "the UConn way"...

I was impressed by the brief interview with Zion. That kid is smart and has fire in his eyes. Not a typical freshman.

Mora has to thread a needle here and pick a starter without having the rest head to the portal. I think we might see multiple QB's games one and two with the best performer starting versus Syracuse. It is what it is.

A coach can only tell so much from practice, decision making under real duress is what makes or breaks a QB.

If you go by the interviews and articles, Millen got zero reps. His name was never mentioned. The coaches are being cautious with Puma.

So it's really a two man race. It's comes down to Roberson and Turner. If they are equal or close, you have to go with Roberson first. He has been with the team longer. He is older. More experienced. He was an important transfer from a P5 school.

Starting Turner would be a bold and unexpected move. If he falters, it makes Mora look bad. It might ding Truner's confidence. Plus, he longer Turner sits, he becomes more ready to play.

Yes, this is a wild arse guess. If one shows himself to be much better in the next week, play him. But if it's close, I think Roberson is the default.

I for one like the fact that Mora is not finding it an easy choice for who starts. Rather than downing the guys for none of them can separate themselves from the pack, seeing some serious depth with each guy having some upside that only game play will prove or disprove.
Whoever starts will get newbie benefit (opponents don't have an extensive book on any of the guys given none of them have played a lot and new offense) and then will see how he does when defenses "settle in" on what he can and can't do well.
2 or 3 guys will get legit shots at proving themselves this year. One good thing about the portal is it gives all the QB's incentive to get better if for nothing else but get other potential transfer options interested.

Coaches watched film last night, will go over film with players today. Monday and Tuesday are practice, Thrursday is move in to dorm day and then it is full on game plan.

Gotta think starter is named by Tues or Wed, or at a minimum, very strong indicators of who is getting most of first team reps going forward.

Charlton:

“With (Roberson) we talked about critical errors in the spring, but he would do some outstanding things because he is very gifted,” Charlton said. “He is one of the best throwers of the football purely that I have been around. But in terms of understanding the game, (he needs to know) when to eat it when the play isn’t there.”

“(Turner) is very cerebral. He obviously played at a very high level in high school, so he is extremely coachable,” Charlton said. “He is very physically gifted, he understands the game and he is calm out there. He had a couple of things today, most of those were operational as well, but he makes plays too. He is very much in the thick of this thing right now and I am proud of where he has gotten to at this point.”

End of Wednesday would make the most sense. At this point I don't care who it is I just wanna know that we have an established QB1
I thought for a while, based on some inside info that it would be Turner, but based on what Charlton said to the press it seems like Roberson will be the guy. Maybe Mora flips a coin on game day, LOL.

My two cents worth, listening to Charlton talk about Turner's IQ and how he learns from watching film and then taking that to the field. I believe that Turner will be the starter.

That makes it official, won't be relying on the QB to win games this season, hoping they don't lose any.

Best hope is that whoever is getting the game snap can emerge based on the early experience.

It didn’t seem like Millen had a chance even though he preformed welll
Sounds like Millen is a style mismatch for the spread they want to run.

Well, perhaps a style mismatch for the OL that UConn has at the moment. But if they develop some pass protection stoutness, he will be a very valuable guy to have around.
What i find interesting is he is supposed to be a terrific athlete.

Agree. I think Turner surprised them and is making a case for himself. He’s not quite there yet but he’s likely doing enough to merit serious consideration.
