EVINA IS COMING BACK! [Merged Thread]

great that Evina is coming back. Uconn needs to start having a deeper rotation and a higher energy brand of basketball that keeps up high defensive pressure for 40 minutes. Evina will be part of that. Geno can also pull people out if they do not show courage. I look forward to a great season starting In the fall.

I'm really shocked to read this but pleasantly so.............I have to believe she feels she missed out on playing in front of the roaring home crowds and more importantly lifting that NC trophy...........next year's team will have the additional size, scoring and experience to make that a distinct possibility......

What exceptional news!!!!!!!!

I felt all along Evina would come back. I believe she really enjoyed playing this season. You could see those smiles during games. And she had the biggest smile when holding the Big East tourney trophy.

Character and leadership!!!

My guess is that they discussed every option after the season and worked out what was best for Evina
ESPN has E going in the top five of the draft. She will not do better than that next year, and may be challenged to even do as well. This isn’t about Westbrook staying school because she doesn’t have options. She does, very good ones. This is about Westbrook, who will be 23 next year, making the decision to play at UConn in a non-Covid environment and compete for a championship. She has my respect.

her decision makes me think that she fully expects to be better next year
I like all the positive speculations about her coming back, and I think there's truth in all of them.

But on a very practical level this would make a lot of sense as her core reason and it bodes well for us. She's back because she wants to be here, sure. But also because she believes she is healing well and will have another quality year to enhance her value. This will be huge because I think despite all the praise she may have been the most under-rated player for UConn this year and I don't care if all the Freshman shine and all the Sophomores improve: an even stronger and more solid Evina Westbrook would be SuperGlue.

There's unfinished business and she can help lead them to the promised land.

Jeanno is on point. Given her chronic leg issues I wonder if she is considering playing next year and then wallk
through the desirable doors regarding coaching that Geno will help open for her. Once in the room Evina will surely impress.
Hmmm...maybe a one year internship in Storrs...and if we then have a coaching departure, would she jump on the already best staff in the game? Delighted to see her coming back.

Evina coming back makes next years roster really, really (as Geno would say) intriguing. She has been a steady leader for this team, and her contributions and experience in some of our biggest games were readily apparent. I think her drive for a NC will be relentless next year and will continue to be a motivating factor for Paige and the rest of the team. Besides, with 3 new kids coming in, its always good to have "mom" around.

How many scholarship players next year? How many minutes for the incoming superstar freshman? Who sits? Evina, Muhl? Gino doesn't use a long bench.

With Evina coming back it probably eliminates a starting lineup that includes both Aaliyah and Olivia. I was looking forward to both being in the starting lineup.

Potential Starters.

Evina
Paige
Christyn.
Presume Olivia because she's a senior. Aaliyah is possible.
Nika at the start of the season, but Azzi might be starter by the end of the season.

If Aaliyah and Olivia are both in the starting lineup.

Evina
Paige
Aaliyah
Olivia
Christyn.

I want Aaliyah in the starting lineup as she provide the physicality the team need in the low post.

Amari has to get playing time to be ready for the good teams. I'm sorry, but Liv is undependable and we can't take a chance of a repeat performance of what she has shown multiple times this season. If there will be any weakness for us next year it will be in the post. The combination of Alya and Amari may be our best bet to survive the more physical and taller teams.

Even though I was wrong and thought that she should leave I am happy that she is coming back.

I admit to being surprised but also intrigued to see how all these pieces work together. It's clear there is "unfinished business" for the 3 seniors and them plus all the young talent will be difficult to defeat. One never knows about chemistry or injuries and I don't see a couple of the teams with lots of talent back going down without some pretty big fights. Still the Huskies will be the team to beat.
