Wow - I just looked at his season stats and he's made 135 threes this year shooting .021 over his career average (.422 vs 4.01).

A few years ago when he broke the record and compared the end of Reggies career and tried to come up with what he might end with considering an expected drop off in #/year. At that time, I thought it was kind of unlikely he would get to 3000.

Now he stands just 147 away from 3000. Considering he made 135 this year, it seems likely he cracks that easily with 2 more years. If he can really play 5 - maybe 3200 or 3250? That would be ridiculous. Reggie finished with 2560 for comparison. The next behind that is Jason Kidd with 1986. Amazing numbers.

I don't follow the NBA, but are there any young gunners that have any chance to catch either of the top 2?

Stephen Curry would be the one that springs to mind who could maybe get to 2500-3000. The x-factor is health with him, of course. You wonder how many more sprained ankles he can take.

It takes a combination of shooting skill, insane conditioning combined with the mental toughness to play pretty much forever, and a career-long green light. It's very doubtful it will ever happen again.

It's funny to think for a long time Jason Kidd was thought of as being a terrible shooter, and he has the third most 3's. I know it's largely due to playing for such a long career, and he became a better shooter as he got older out of necessity, but still pretty interesting.

Kids watch all the highlights of guys dunking and getting reaction and think this is the way to stardom......not too many great shooters in the game and the one's that are usually are specialists and don't see the minutes to be able to even come close to those numbers. I doubt anyone get's close!
