ESPN AA, POY, COY, FOY

Perhaps because she leads the country in scoring and field goal percentage and is fifth in rebounding.
To me those are just numbers. Don't get me wrong. If I was putting together a team I'd find room for her but I don't think she's 1st team caliber, especially when you look at the field.

Does any of our South Carolina friends no what all the stir on twitter about Aja Wilson is about??? It came out shortly after the ESPN awards were announced.

Some people thought she didn't deserve it. Some even went to an extent saying her character is messed up. To each is own. I think we all know Dawn will go to war for her girls and I love that about her!

Thanks. Dawn should stand up for her players. Its what coaches should do. Attacking a kids character seems a tad low to me.

When I 'look at the field' it seems to me she had a better year than any of them. Her numbers are certainly better than anyone else, so what are the other considerations? And by the way, productivity as measured by the numbers are pretty much the be-all and end-all of sports. Kelsey Mitchell will be an all-American solely because she scores a lot (just not as much as Gustafson this year.) As Dawn Staley says above, "numbers don't lie."

.-.
I think she is worried that she is not going to the WBCA NPOY, she is trying to counter Geno and his believe that Lou should be the WBCA NPOY.
Not sure what Dawn is worried about. Wilson will win most, if not all, of the NPOY awards. I don't know what she is getting at with "storytellers", but the narrative was written for Wilson before the season even started.

Not sure about that. I think it may be a prelude to something else.

Same goes for other seasons..... with different players.

There are a couple of glaring gaffs- Victoria Vivians is the Alpha on MSU and should not be 3rd team nor should be behind McCowan and as such Tiera should not be 1st team. MCCowan at best is 2nd team. I do think VV should be either 1st or 2nd team. Overall, it’s the correct list of candidates.
Sophie Cunningham of Mizzo not even 3rd team is a joke

At least Jeff Walz and Muffet should feel somewhat relieved both ("the other player") Durr and Ogunbowale are on the second team. Who knows what Jeff would have done if Durr made the 1st team with Arike on the 2nd team.

And so a player wins an award she doesn't deserve. Stewie won the Final Four MOP in 2015 because she was Stewie, not because she had the best performance. Maybe Wilson has had the best season, but it's not as clear as in many years. And again, Dawn doesn't need to write cryptic Twitter posts; her player will win the awards.

.-.
Who are these storytellers of our game and what are they saying? I'm confused. The predominant POY storyline this season is that A'ja will win the awards.

Who are the haters Boyer is referring to?

I think it is the personal attacks against Aja's character. Though their are some players that could rival and play with Aja' like a Lou, or Pheesa, for POY, it seems that some people who are not near this level were taking shots at her and her game. Also, people that would say that Aja has bad character are just being totally bias and Dawn will not stand for that. Boyer is not really prevalent on twitter so to get a reaction from her, means the narrative must have been really biased and unfair. I think any coach of that type of player would do the same. Those Philly coaches, Geno, Muffet, or Dawn for good or bad will speak their mind.

Interesting that POY discussion rarely includes Ionescu. Because she's only a soph? With her ability to impact the game in so many ways, AND with her cockiness, I think she is the closest I've seen to Taurasi. She can take over games like nobody else right now.

Who are the people making these attacks? It doesn't sound like it's random people on Twitter. Who is saying these things?

But Kia Nurse doesn't even make 3rd team All American? Come on!!!!

Something is very wrong here.

It may not be fair IMO, Kia (same for Azura) falls off voters lists when UConn has Lou, Gabby and Pheesa. Voters are not about to select 4 or more from any one team no matter how their stats stack up with others from other teams.

.-.
This is laughable because the storytellers have been spinning it toward her player from before the season started so she has nothing to complain about. What she should be concerned about is her team and her coaching. If it was all about numbers then Mitchell should get it as neither team won everything and we all know that doesn't mean either are the best players.

For me, the other considerations is who you play and the numbers one puts up against said competition. Iowa a couple of good wins but also several bad losses and to me the numbers can only take you so far. Granted, she wasn't in charge of the out of conference schedule but the losses to some of the in conference opponents typically is used when determining post-season accolades.

Which player would you knock off 3rd team in favor of Nurse?

Options are:
Victoria Vivians, Mississippi State, G, 6-foot-1, senior
2017-18: 19.6 PPG, 6.0 RPG, 48.5 field goal percentage

Megan Gustafson, Iowa, F, 6-foot-3, junior
2017-18: 25.6 PPG, 12.7 RPG, 2.1 BPG

Marie Gulich, Oregon State, C, 6-foot-5, senior
2017-18: 17.1 PPG, 8.9 RPG, 2.8 BPG

Jordin Canada, UCLA, G, 5-foot-6, senior
2017-18: 16.8 PPG, 6.9 APG, 3.2 SPG

Lexie Brown, Duke, G, 5-foot-9, senior
2017-18: 20.1 PPG, 4.4 APG, 3.5 SPG

Not so sure I understand who you would demote in favor of Sophie. I think Cunningham had a very good year for Mizzou but on the third team her position of Guard is covered by 3 people-Lexie Brown (no way Sophie is better than her), Victoria Vivians (again, that shouldn't even be a discussion) or Jordin Canada, as a senior who had a good year and was pre-season consideration. I am not sure Sophie had a better year than Jordin. Gulich and Gustafson played different positions and both had great years. Mizzou is better than Iowa but Gustafson split Big10 player of the year with Mitchell (coaches and sportswriters). Gulich is a center on a strong OSU team. So who do you leave off?

Like the team winning everything has to do with the best player in the country. I think Diana Taurasi won it once when UConn did not win it all. (Facts) Also, Lebron is still widely acclaimed as the best player though he does not have the supporting cast this year to win it all. Hint: It is a player award, not what team has won it all award. Clue: Kelsey Plum

And yet you ignore the fact that I was questioning why she is complaining hmmm.

While this won't be popular here, and I love Kia Nurse's play and hard work especially on defense, I personally don't see her replacing any of these five players.
Yes they are not going to put four U Conn players amongst the top fifteen but when you just look at talent and performance, I'm sorry to say Nurse isn't a better player than any of those five.
This doesn't minimize her rather significant contributions to this U Conn team. But being the fourth or maybe the fifth or sixth best player on your team doesn't lead to being in top 15.
Yes it's unfair that she may well not qualify for the Wall, any fan of U Conn women's team appreciate her and her work.

A'ja deserves to win POY but you certainly aren't helping her.
Fact checker:
1) DT did not win POY in a season in which UCONN did not win a Championship. Clue: DT was a 3 time champion.
2) Lebron has not won NBA MVP for 5 season now.
3) Kelsey Plum won the POY award largely because she broke the ALLTIME NCAA scoring record.

I wouldn't replace any of those players from the 3rd team for Kia Nurse. She does her role. She hits open shots, can play solid defense, and be an excellent teammate. Not trying to rustle feathers, but she's not an AA. How good would she do if she was the first or second option on a team instead of the 4th or 5th? I'm sure teams don't want to leave her open, but they have to because of all of the other great players. She is going to be a good pro (I believe) because she will have a similar role to the one she has now. (Knockdown shooter and defender.)

I'll rephrase that. If I had a vote, I would vote for the three UConn nominees to be Kia Nurse. Her success this year has been AS worthy IMO. That remains to be seen by whoever picks. The point I was trying to make is that she has other All-Americans ahead of her, so her stats aren't as impressive. I haven't read any comment after mine, so there is a chance that no one replied to me. I just wanted to try to give some reasoning behind my comment. If I had an AA vote, these would be my Huskies... KLS , Gabby, and Kia.

You are misreading the poster you quote. They wrote " Lebron is still widely acclaimed as the best player". That is true and that is not the same as being the MVP. See, for example, this article: MVP or not, LeBron James is the best basketball player in the world

Or this one: https://www.foxsports.com/nba/gallery/lebron-james-proved-again-that-hes-the-nbas-real-mvp-051917
