Excellent.

Any chance Eric knows Neils Giffey ?
He brought his name up in the interview with 247. Hard to think he would not have spoken to him in his search for a college when he was considering Uconn.

Reibe is actually our fourth German, right? Niels, Enosch, and the almighty Leon Tolksdorf?
Was aware of the other guys- I thought Giffey's legacy was more note worthy as compared to theirs. My bad

This part will be interesting as I can see Hurley and his system being compelling to those that are willing to be patient, and to be of higher value on the bench in year one than playing instantly elsewhere.

There is no other program doing and proving what Hurley is right now. The right kind of kids may want to be part of that even if it means no instant playing time. An intrasquad scrimmage at UConn may be better competition and development than a lot of other programs as a starter.

Exactly. And this is a fairly easy sell to players when Hurley can also mention that NBA scouts are allowed to come in and watch these intense hyper-competitive practices. Look at the NBA buzz that already has been generated for Ross, who really has had little to no live game experience yet.

I'd imagine the recruiting is also teamwork, at least Tom Moore in the GM role is involved and Luke is talking with him about the offense. hurley doing husky noises. Kimani seems more guard focused and in the philly/ny area

excellent point. If he is able to sell recruits on how the program will coach players hard in eyes of NBA GMs and allow them to see practices, then we will continue to get the top commits. Both as a result of individual players nba futures AND winning championships (unlike Cal in recent years). I've heard the Ross-NBA scout thing more than once, obviously from Hurley. The concept that these players wait their turn and even settle for less playing time they might get elsewhere is really a testament to what he has built.

I’m talking about the guys that have/will have already been patient

if they play more guys there'll be enough time to showcase everyone. the system is flexible enough to address the roster congestion.

I’m wondering after this today if Kentucky, Duke, Kansas, NC, still don't think we’re a blue blood? And I laugh when Indiana fans think they are on the same level as us. This isn’t 1976 with Knight.
still not a blueblood. maybe a modern day. outside of the NE, people just don't follow or care about Uconn like they do with the UK, UNC, Kansas.

14 guys averaging 14mpg lol

You need to get past the blue blood thing.
Agreed. We are what we are: the best college basketball program in America. Enjoy it and live in the moment.

After the Reibe commitment yesterday I took the opportunity to reflect back to a game that I attended at XL less than 10 years ago. We were part of the AAC getting our butts handed to us by Tulsa(I think anyway). I remember thinking about how far our program had fallen in such a short amount of time.
Fast forward to now and we are 100% on the College Basketball Mountaintop and have the unquestionable best coaching staff in the country.
Hurley and staff have exceeded any expectations I or anyone else could have had when he took a risk on himself and guided this program back to being “The College Basketball Capital of the World”.
We are so extremely lucky to have him and the other amazing assistants on staff.

I'm looking forward to seeing what they do with this year's team. Without a dominant big. Can Dan Hurley and staff turn take what appears to be an abundance of guards and three point shooting. Combine it with the excellent ball movement they have shown the past 2 years. Then turn the team into the college equivalent of the Golden State Warriors..... if Dan Hurley and staff pull that off. Adjust to not having a dominant big. They are absolutely the best staff in the history of College BBall.

Watching Reibe commit on YouTube was pretty awesome and it just showed everyone how far Hurley has taken this program. The excitement of joining the best program in the country really showed through during his post commitment interview. Kids like him will continue to build on the amazing culture the coaches have created for their players.

Mark Suhr (sp?). Seven foot one center back in the late 80’s maybe?
He was a 7'0'' sophomore on the 1989-1990 Dream team. I remember that he could not compete as a freshman, so he practiced with John Gwynn.

Dream Team Roster

Here is a post concerning Suhr that makes me laugh.

this dmv area podcast got eric reibe in person talking about his recruitment

it's a bit all over the place but he said he's still growing height wise and expects to be 7'1

If he has real reason to believe he’ll be 7’1 by freshman year, he’s a top 10 player in the class, easily. That’d be game changing for his defensive upside.

I imagine as a serious basketball prospect the height growth question is not a casual one, so there's real testing and understanding behind it. Either way he's also training hard to gain strength and would be an immediate impact addition next year.

In the URI postgame Hurley mentioned playing 8 comfortably and a ninth guy can get squeezed for some minutes. Hard to imagine he goes deeper than that before garbage time.

Every kid he goes after and gets is well spoken, eats and breathes basketball, and is from a good family who is involved.

I love how Calhoun took chances on kids but with the Father Flanagan approach it's a gamble. Sometimes it worked out beautifully like with Caron but other times it went south.
It's pretty nice knowing we don't have to worry about our players off the court anymore.

Hurley has mastered everything it takes to be the best in college basketball from the staff, to the culture, to the media, to the kids he brings in, and just the top to bottom buy in from everyone involved. As amazing as Calhoun was he never had the program humming like this.
Both coaches have brought into coaching their experiences growing up.

JC lost a dad at an early age and had to be the adult in his family prematurely. He naturally gravitated to kids who were going through tough times when he saw they had potential.

Hurley had a strong bonded family that did lots of things together and a strong support system. He looks for recruits who have families that have these characteristics.

JC treated his players as family. So does Hurley. JC pushed his players hard. So does Hurley. The intention being that players will find an inner strength they didn't know they had.
They both garner(ed) tremendous respect from their players. There is a reason why we have six NC's in a short span. They found and honed men who have a passion for basketball and are willing to put in the effort to succeed.

Hurley is undoubtedly the best Head Coach of this era, and the Assistant Coaches are top notch as well. JC won three National Championships, Hurley may match that consecutively. Astoundingly great job.

that's true but the wing group is probably the one with the most fluidity throughout the season in terms of playing time because of the higher interchangeability. until ahmad learns the offense the guard group and bigs group are pretty set in stone. with the wings i can see more change depending on performance and practice etc.
