Entering the portal - 2026

Boo 🤣
That is actually quite funny
How many here are of an age to catch it?
I'm an 80s rock and punk kind of guy but I admit to having a few old timey appreciations, and I always listened to Mel and even bought some of his vinyl. His version of "They can't take that away from me..." has run through my head repeatedly over the years. I feel the same way about Hee Haw's Roy Clark. I told my Van Halen fanatic friends that Roy blows away Eddie (I'm not sure I ever really meant it) and it used to send them up the wall.

The NC State kid testing the draft is funny. Is any NBA scout going to waste 5 minutes on that kid to give him useful feedback? My feedback to the kid is to not piss off NBA scouts by wasting their time.

As Cal likes to do, makes room for all his OAD's, even if it means pushing out a kid that has stuck with him, relegated to bench, for 3 years. A kid like Wagner likely could have been nurtured into a floor leader over time - not a spectacular player, but a general. Wonder what he's doing with Meleek - last I saw, he was doing his best to get him into the first round.

Hines wants $3 million?! Something’s got to give in the next few years with NIL. The economics aren’t sustainable unless programs can promise significant brand endorsement deals via existing athletic department sponsors.

Being from Maine myself. I wouldn’t mind seeing him come to UConn.

We're essentially moving to a model of donors being part-owners at a fraction of the cost of actual pro sports franchises. It's not really about profitability.

Najai Hines is a good player with good upside. If it's true he is asking for $3 million, that is his choice, but UConn should pass.

Have heard that St John's is a possibility, but the tweet you're responding to is not a credible source and is likely doing some heavy guessing here. As I have said before, I don't think Hurley is going after SHU players in the portal at this point, and there's no way we'll be the top bidder for Hines when we have a McDonald's All-American at the position.

UConn did recruit him a little. Not sure how hard. Friend of mine works with Middlesex Magic kids and worked with Estrella and knew him well. Said at the time he committed to Tennessee it would be a sin if their coaching staff couldn't get him to the NBA. I said he was making a mistake committing to Barnes. Curious to see where he ends up.

There are many better bigs at the low and mid major level at half the cost if the $3 million is real.

Hines' 3 million dollar price tag is in line with Louisville's Sananda Fru (9p, 6.1r, 1.4b).

Some of these kids are going to end up screwed by their "agents." Budgets are not infinite and the numbers being floated are funny. The market is the market works both ways.

But there is no financial return on the investment. How long can donors sustain the millions to keep the pipeline flowing? Donors for teams like BYU, Kansas and UNC forked over millions for 1st or 2nd round tourney exits. Then the players that got paid transfer elsewhere. It is a broken system.

Nobody will pay that

That's my point. Financial return isn't what is being looked for from these people. It's not an investment. The return is the access and entertainment to the donors. Sure, it's not as entertaining for people to lose. But how many people pay money to do a fantasy sports league and then come in last and still pay the next year? It's the thrill of having input and access.

You get 5 people to give a million a year (from say 100 mil net worth individuals who barely miss it, there are 30k such people in the USA and hundreds in CT and you only need 5) and 10 people to give 500k (or 20 to give 250k, etc.) and then add 10 mil from revenue sharing for men's ball and that's 20 million.

Are the donors billionaires?

If so, they can sustain it for approximately 1,793 years

These are the people who paid up for gorilla NFTs
