Entering the portal - 2026

Always seemed like Lewis wanted more than Nova. Wouldn’t be shocked if he’s supremely paid to be the guy, as it seems he wanted from the start, at Kentucky or St Johns.

Lewis is a waste of money. He would be happy playing for the worst team that would pay him the highest contract. He wants to take 30 shots a game and be one of the leading scorers in D1, even if his team was 10-18.

The 10th pick of the draft is guaranteed 2 years and 12.3m with 2 more team option years for a total of 20m.

The 20th pick of the draft is guaranteed 2 years and 7-8m total with 2 more team option years for a total of 17m.

It’s fairly obvious to anyone who knows basketball what the right choice is if you’re a projected 1st round pick.

Could you make an argument that playing another year in college under Hurley would be better for a player? Sure. I wouldn’t agree with it, though. Playing against other pros in the G league with all the NBA resources available to you while having secured your financial future should never be passed up.

Kentucky it is…
Kentucky would be desperate enough to do it - no one can look at Hurley and see why he's winning, and the fact that building culture and a system is how it's being done. One year mercenaries that play for pay, don't care about what jersey they're wearing, aren't how you win.

Team option, look at first 2 years only. He can get 2m guaranteed now and move up10-15 spots in weaker draft next year. Staying is the no brainer. A year stronger he will be ready to play against men. I
Only wish Hawkins had this option but nil was not there. Hawkins is a sad cautionary tale.

Players like Lewis are the reason so many coaches don't bother with high school players anymore.
If the news is accurate in regarding Villanova offering a large NIL offer- more so than your statement- this is the reason why so many coaches are retiring are doing their very best to get to the NBA.

I say this with 💯 truth. I was speaking to someone who went to the Big East tourney. On the train ride home, they were speaking with an older gentlemen, just small talk because they were both UConn fans. This older gentlemen claimed he had dinner with the Mullins family in NY City during the tourney. He stated there’s Zero Chance that Mullins returns after speaking to his dad at dinner. So there’s that.
This is next level carwash talk

Was told by a very good source from Nova that they offered him $3m. If true, that’s wild he turned it down.
If true I hope it works out for him like it did for Pj Haggerty and he can get less money to go be irrelevant at Kansas St

If true, where is he getting more $$ or PT? What is he even angling for? I wouldn't touch the kid with a ten foot pole - could see UK jumping in out of desperation, which seems to be their chronic state.

St Johns also likes themselves big names at top dollar, especially if they can poach them from another conference member.

Rioux...7'9"...the Florida kid...entering the portal.

Does he have rotational ceiling on a good team down the road...just a frosh.

He sure would spark interest wherever he goes.

Would Hurley take a look?

Should he take a look?
No.

Didn't he commit to UK initially? Would be an awkward return

The funny thing is that many coaches like the current system much better. It is a lot less work and a lot less time and effort spent on kids who will never come to the school.

Old days: follow teenagers around for years; try to project what the kid will look like in 4 years when he is and adult; work coaches, shoe execs, family members, and the kid himself; and then lose when a slimy assistant for a Calipari or Pearl shows up with an envelope at the end.

Now: watch some game film of a much more physically and emotionally mature 21 year old that has played 3 years in college already; talk to the player’s agent, discuss a pay package, quickly figuring out if the player is delusional or worth it; move on quickly if not a fit.

I know which way I would prefer.
