Emmert stepping down

Too little, too late
Amen. Met him a few times. Always has been the slimiest of the slime balls. Screwed up how many universities in addition to the NCAA? UConn, Washington, LSU, and on and on. My best memory of him was the silly grin on his face after the 2014 championship when Bazz said, basically to his face, "this is what happens when you ban us." National television audience too.

What more could he do? He's made enough money not doing anything.

Probably doesn't matter. Will definitely be a "Meet new boss. Same as old boss" situation.

These dudes who run the NCAA, BCS, NFL, MLB, etc.. all creep me out. I assume they are all rich old weirdos who attend bizarre Eyes Wide Shut style parties.

That said. Emmert is a . I hope there's some embarrassment he's suffering. I don't even care if it's behind closed doors. Nothing too scandalous. Just the realization that he's an idiot and should be canned. I hope his legacy from within the NCAA goes something like this.
  • "Remember Mark Emmert?"
  • "Vaguely. Wasn't he a complete genius?"
  • "Yeah, that's the guy."

He shot it lol. NIL is a mess because they made 0 concrete rules because they were under the gun due to lawsuits and just said e-f-f it.
He's the worst but I don't see what the NCAA could do. This is what you wanted and it's awful for college sports.

The NIL, The COVID extra year and the Transfer Portal happening at the exact same time is a disaster. I think this is all intentional, self sabotage. To many major changes at the same time with limited rules it seems.

Leaving because there’s more money in becoming an agent.

Glad to see him go but the trajectory of college basketball isn’t improving anytime soon.

Water bubbler talk at my office is he's going to Connecticut College.

What they could do is put a program NIL salary cap for postseason eligibility. The NCAA still controls the postseason tournament. You have a team of players over the cap? You’re not eligible because you are a glorified pro team. It’s a pretty “simple” fix

This way teams like UK and Duke can buy up players all they want and keep feeding them to the NBA, but they won’t be eligible for postseason play. Win win for everyone lol

Programs would easily just circumvent the reporting of the amount of NIL. Just like everyone cheated when payments were illegal.

I also don't think they could do it legally the way things are now.

How do coaches even have that conversation like “Listen kid we have a booster who owns Ford dealerships who’s willing to give you a million dollar ad contract if you sign.” They have to feel dirty. The sport was meant to be like the best basketball players from the student body lol.
