Gotta wonder who would take that job in a year.
Dan Gavitt?

What they could do is put a program NIL salary cap for postseason eligibility. The NCAA still controls the postseason tournament. You have a team of players over the cap? You’re not eligible because you are a glorified pro team. It’s a pretty “simple” fixHe's the worst but I don't see what the NCAA could do. This is what you wanted and it's awful for college sports.
Programs would easily just circumvent the reporting of the amount of NIL. Just like everyone cheated when payments were illegal. What they could do is put a program NIL salary cap for postseason eligibility. The NCAA still controls the postseason tournament. This way teams like UK and Duke can buy up players all they want and keep feeding them to the NBA, but they won’t be eligible for postseason play. Win win for everyone lol
I also don't think they could do it legally the way things are now.Programs would easily just circumvent the reporting of the amount of NIL. Just like everyone cheated when payments were illegal.
How do coaches even have that conversation like “Listen kid we have a booster who owns Ford dealerships who’s willing to give you a million dollar ad contract if you sign.” They have to feel dirty. The sport was meant to be like the best basketball players from the student body lol.Programs would easily just circumvent the reporting of the amount of NIL. My gut reaction is to agree with this. I haven't thought deeply about it, and I'm probably not informed or creative enough to do so anyway, but I can't see a way to define and enforce a cap. It's just way too big of a mess.Programs would easily just circumvent the reporting of the amount of NIL. Just like everyone cheated when payments were illegal.
The NCAA still has control over programs though. They can likely require schools to disclose NIL payments and then if they find guys being paid under the table (like they have been for decades) the NCAA can investigate. They have to try something to keep it under controlPrograms would easily just circumvent the reporting of the amount of NIL. Just like everyone cheated when payments were illegal.

Exactly. What is the real issue about to Emmer-ge?Huge bag of scum but he's getting out at the perfect time, college sports are shot.
You're kidding, right? I think most would through in a prostitute as well just to make sure. How do coaches even have that conversation like “Listen kid we have a booster who owns Ford dealerships who’s willing to give you a million dollar ad contract if you sign.” They have to feel dirty. The schools don't make the NIL payments, the 3rd parties/collectives do. Good luck getting a player to disclose their bank statements. The NCAA still has control over programs though. He shot it lol. NIL is a mess because they made 0 concrete rules because they were under the gun due to lawsuits and just said e-f-f it.

Hey he is an astonishing example of the Peter principle, except that he always finds a new level to be incompetent at. He has left a smoldering pile of behind pretty much everywhere he’s ever worked, including the University of Connecticut.Does the NCAA matter anymore, and does it matter who is its president? He’s jumping a sinking ship, as rats often do.
He'll probably make even more money in DC now, his ability to fail up is amazing and is rewarded in that town.Hey he is an astonishing example of the Peter principle, except that he always finds a new level to be incompetent at. The headline for his departure should read something like:
Having seen that his incompetence had utterly eviscerated the NCAA as a governing body, Emmert decides to resign.
I'm hoping you meant the last line to say something along the lines of "They have to try something to foster the perception that they have it under control."The NCAA still has control over programs though. Love the Shabazz reference in the O'Neil article following the win over Kentucky when he made the comment on the dais about going to bed hungry. O-Neil pointed to Napier's comment along with the O'Bannon suit and other factors as contributors toward NIL.Oof. Some razor sharp criticisms in this article:
It's time to rethink the role of NCAA president, who is qualified to lead it
Mark Emmert and other former university presidents have failed. It's time to think outside the box for his replacement.theathletic.com
"It is easy to retread over the inefficient, borderline feckless, tenure of Mark Emmert."
"So let’s just agree to agree that Emmert was not good at being the NCAA president, that he turned a puppet position into a vainglorious attempt to blow smoke up his own posterior rather than consider the greater good; that he never understood that his job was to represent the masses and not himself; and that given the rare opportunity to serve as the talking head he usually bungled that, too."
"So let’s not waste too much time here burying Emmert alongside his puffery."
