  • He's 35 years old and done playing in the NBA, meaning he's available. (He's been in the NBA G League for the past few seasons.)
  • College national champion and arguably best player in the NCAA his junior year.
  • Nine seasons in the NBA, including Rookie of the Year for what that's worth.
  • Could really work to develop our big men in particular, which is by far our position that needs the most work.
  • Well-spoken and articulate, would probably do better with handling the press and not coming across as tone-deaf to the fans as KO.
  • He graduated in three years with an economics degree and a 3.8 GPA -- would probably make sure our APR never falls below postseason ban level again!.

Nope - GPA is not a coaching qualification.

He would be a great assistant. We probably won’t hire an alum for awhile after Ollie

I wouldn't mind the idea of EO becoming a grad assistant. He can work on his masters while helping out in practice (perhaps teaching a thing or two to our bigs).

He could help guys learn to work in the weight room as well.
 
Get us someone who can bring in talent with NBA potential and actually help them get there. The rest takes care of itself.

Yes, we've already had to put up with enough lousy AD and coach hires from a school administration that fears another APR ban like the boogeyman. Why can't we learn to just cheat on that like everybody else does? They all get away with it. That's another one of the many failures of our administration in the athletics realm...trying to run things like we're an Ivy League school while all of our opponents are cheating their asses off and getting away with it. We've reverted back to the way we did things in the early years of the Big East. How well did that work out for us?

Ding ding ding. Suzie Lax would prefer if we all just shut up about bouncing balls and front sevens and go away to let them sharpen their academic resumes to move on somewhere more lucrative and prestigious.
 
Just like Mike Davis said in his recent interview. It would have better for him to work his way up to Indiana from Texas southern and not the other way. If Emeka wants to prove himself let him do it at a smaller school first and not hand him the keys to this car. We might not be a Ferrari anymore but we can at least be a loaded Honda Accord.

Clearly he’s not getting hired and shouldn’t. That said, if we were going to give that deal to a former player with no head coaching experience, I’d rather one who is and always was smart, and not one who...isn’t.
 
Sarcasm. I don't care where the next coach comes from or what his/her gpa was. As long as they can get easy baskets and emphasize reb0ounding, I'm good

What about olander or giffey? They both have 2 NCs. Does that count as a coaching qualification?
 
I think we should drift away from the "in the family" philosophy, but as a hypothetical situation where we did go that route, I guess he could do well as a bigs coach. Okafor and Hilton Armstrong both underwent some tremendous development during their time at UConn and both have some ability in leadership/mentoring. That being said, I think the likelihood of either of them ever joining the staff is less than that of Mick Cronin winning a dunking contest.

I'm ready to have an entire staff of people with no UConn connection. Need new blood, new ideas, new beginnings. The JC era is over. We can't expect anything to ever be like it; especially if our idea is just to keep staffing/relying on people who were a bit part in it.
 
If people are going to throw out foolish suggestions, let's go all in and consider another great opportunity: James "Tex" Spradling!

After all, Tex was one of JC's fill the 1986-7 roster recruits, "Left UConn after his 3rd semester due to academic reasons, finished his studies at the Univeristy of Texas at Arlington, now owns an engineering firm in Oklahoma, Woolman & Spradling Engineering, Inc., and is a registered Professional Engineer in 22 states".

Good guy, couldn't "guard a chair" let alone tie his own shoes, yet undeniably Tex would be a great coach and lead the Huskies' back to NCAA prominence! :rolleyes:
