You could've just said, thanks I was wrong...

The dude thinks we're going to recruit a 6'2, 20% 3 point shooter who averaged 3 TOs a game on a terrible team, and has had 48 concussions... because our coach paid him a compliment.

He's a dufus. Dufuses (or is it dufi?) don't admit when they're wrong.

That's if Slick Rick can stay clean for 3 years......my money is on NFW
It probably won’t take that long until the Saint Johns AD starts complaining about him at least privately.

Some on this board seem to constantly underestimate Pitino as a coach because he's a horrible person. He's a top-5 coach of the last 30 years. Calhoun is 1a, but there are a few lumped together in 1b. A player looking to get the most out of college and improve their game would be a fool to not seriously consider SJU right now.
He took over a terrible Providence program and got them in the final 4 instantly. He took over a bad Iona squad and instantly made them good. He's done this stuff his entire career.

Hunter Dickinson now in the portal. Do we need another 7 footer? He’s pretty premium and elite.

If Georgetown somehow gets enough NIL funds to land he and Justin Moore that would be wild

Pitino is a scumba@ and is a great coach.

Wasn't Iona consistently winning their tourney under their previous coach? Pitino is a legend but Iona wasn't downtrodden.

That's fair. They're the best program in the MAAC and won the league for several years in a row before he got there.

Um, Iona made six of the previous nine tournaments prior to Pitino.

Tim Cluess, who left Iona due to illness, the head coach of those six tournaments, is arguably the best coach in Iona history, and after one season with an interim coach, Pitino took over the program.

But I agree with @husky99, people have their opinions on Pitino and what he does outside the court, but he's one of the best coaches ever. Definitely a privilege to see him coach multiple times at Iona in such a small venue.

UConn’s Dan Hurley says it won’t take Rick Pitino long to get St. John’s back in the NCAA Tournament.

“It’s got unbelievable tradition and history, and you have MSG, and you have a basketball-focused conference, and obviously his background as a coach,” Hurley said here at the Final Four. “I don’t think it’s going to take him long to have them potentially back in this tournament, especially with how quickly you can do things now with the portal.”

We need to go after Olivier Naga-not-gonna-work-here-anymore from Tennessee. That dude single handedly beat dook in the 2nd half. We need a beast to compliment Clingkong.

The absurdity of Clingan and Dickinson would be worth it alone for me. But obviously it’s not happening.

They were 29-33 in the two season before Pitino got there, they went 64-22 in the next three seasons with Pitino.

They won the MAAC tourney in 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019. They won the regular season in 2014, 2015 and 2016.

Your attempt at data mining fails miserably.

Huh?? We went to the tourney and won a game in 2016. Usually agree with most of what you say but you are out on a very thin limb on this one.
Iona was good under Cluess and then they totally sucked for two seasons before they hired Pitino and he got them really good right away. UConn was the best team in the country and then totally sucked three seasons later.

This isn't difficult, Iona was bad when Pitino took over, UConn was bad when Hurley took over. I'm impressed with coaches who take over bad teams and immediately make them good, that's what Pitino does.

Iona was one year removed from an NCAA appearance when he took over. And had multiple NCAA appearances in the not too distant past.

Hurley took over a dumpster fire, that I will agree with you on. Hurley punched up, Pitino punched down. Let’s not confuse what he did. Him going to that league was gonna get him the marginal guy that he needed to succeed at that level. Massive step down for him but attractive for kids that would otherwise never have a chance to play for a “legendary” coach.
