Elite Eight - UConn vs ND 1:00 on ABC

Yesss. Can watch the women’s game, hopefully decompress after a win and then get ready for the men’s game

I’m not too worried. Last time we beat NDby almost 40and shot poorly from 3 (6-24). I do think it will only be a 20 point win this time
With all the stories about the venue, ball, floor and rims, one would expect less emphasis on 3 point shooting. The ND/Vandy game was all about drives to the basket, layups and distribution. HH just was the better at that than anyone else. At 5'5" one might wonder why she was out rebounding everyone and had a triple double, cruising up and down the floor with no problem. If you watched the game, ND was a one trick pony and Vanderbilt a star struck deer in the headlights. UConn beat ND by almost 40 back in January with HH having 16 points and although that game was at home and ND has improved, there is no way this game is even close.

Notre Dame has figured out how to maximize what they have. I don't expect a repeat of the earlier game. The Huskies should still win comfortably, but the game could be interesting for a little while, especially if the Huskies get off to a slow start giving the Irish hope.

I am expecting a repeat of the first two rounds. A rough beginning in game one and then greater rhythm to begin two days later. Perhaps not smooth enough to make Notre Dame cry in humiliation at halftime but enough to establish control of the game early on.

Just re-watched the first ND game. Things were fairly close at half-time with UConn pulling steadily away after that.
What struck me was how the ball was shared and how everyone had success of some sort. As the offense picked up, the defense also gained energy. By the end, the Huskies were chugging full steam ahead. Number 3 scratched out 16 very contested points.
Although less sensational than the first half of the Syracuse Massacre, this game was played smoothly with the cream rising to the top.
Hope we snap back from the sluggish NC contest. Like to go into the last 2 games in high gear.

Hidalgo was talking about how much Notre Dame has improved since the January game, as if Connecticut hasn't also improved.

Having said that, I didn't want to play them again and I get a little sick to my stomach every time we have to play them. Or Tennessee. Or South Carolina.

I don't feel good about the game tomorrow. I know it took a super-human performance by HH, but they still won only by three points, I wonder about the UConn conductors, KK and Shade. They have the experience but are not playing loose and free. But the main reason I feel like I do is I wonder if Fudd will make close to her ppg average or have another off game. When she is on the team wins easily.

.-.
Just an observation: So far the 4 #1 seeds have played 12 games, and no team has come closer than 21 points. So much for parity.
Yeah, there is not parity. The top 5 teams are closer but that comes at the expense of nearly everyone else due to NIL and the portal.

We all have our opinions. Geno has always said that the Elite 8 game is the hardest game to win in the tournament. As for tomorrow’s game Hannah is an awesome player. However she does not have her former sidekick Miles on the team anymore. She will get her points. Let’s stop the others. They only have two bench players. We use five. Blanca is a way better than Bransford. Plus, those rims should be soft by now.

Yes, we are the favorite. However, any team with a weapon like Hidalgo is a threat to anyone! I’m pretty sure she has UConn's full attention! Here’s hoping our girls can figure out those rims tomorrow!

That is definitely a problem, but that doesn't explain the lack of parity for the last 50 years. There have always been a small number of teams that were much better than everyone else.

If Geno has always said that, I'm not sure why. His record in the Elite 8 is 24-5. His record in the final game is 12-1. By far, he has had the hardest time in the semi-final game, where his record is 13-11.
His records I totally agree with you but he has said that the Elite 8 game is always the hardest to win. Enjoy the game today….

Need to keep HH in relative check. The entire team feeds off her energy. If she struggles a bit that energy goes away pretty quick.

We have the better team by far, but ND knows how to play us tough and are playing as good as any team right now.

Think we win and probably looks on the comfy side but curious how it all shakes out.

There are not 300 schools invested in winning women’s basketball. Not even 20 probably. That has been true forever. The top kids nationally are basically choosing to go to the same 10 schools then and now.

Think about when Geno and CD came to UConn. Apparently Toner said he wanted to help Geno succeed but it was really left up to Geno and CD. One small office. One telephone. Limited recruiting budget. That is how I think the great majority of women’s teams operate. Those majority of teams then gather up the best HS talent around them locally/regionally that they can (but not the random elite in their zone that will pick between 10 schools at most) and there is their team for the year. They aren’t competing with the top schools.
Geno and CD put in the effort and recruited only New England, PA and NJ. That was as far as the budget allowed and what good player would come to no name UConn from outside the region anyway?
Geno and CD beat the odds by being great coaches and very hard workers. From becoming a competitive BE team for the first time with area players to their first elite player win when Lobo stayed home. and after that they started really rolling. And UConn backed women’s basketball once Geno and CD really earned it. recruitment of the whole US was opened up. UConn became the school that could fill the team with the top California kid, Ohio kid etc.

At least this is how I see it.

No worries. At some point UConn will emerge with a 20+ point lead and be on their way. Geno has a plan and it worked the last time, and it will work this time. The biggest thing ND has to try to do is stop Sarah Azzi and Blanca. We slow down HH and there is no one else who can distribute the ball. Our Turbo Charged Defense will handle it. Im very confident . As good as ND played against Vandy remember Vandy is not UConn.
