Elite 8 Games Thread

8 points in first 15+ minutes of the game for Tennessee. That's still not very good.

Same blueprints in many ways - I lost count how many times Bama penetrated the lane and did an about face, which allowed Dukes perimeter defenders to sit out by the 3 point line, so there were no free kick outs. Bama lives for the kick outs. Dukes defense is 100% the reason. Many times they sent Maluach high to defend the 3 point line and left Flagg back to guard the rim. The defensive versatility is unreal.

This Duke team is even better than I thought and I thought they were very good. Their offense has improved significantly. The shots Bama made were twice as hard as the those Duke did. It will be interesting to see if Oates makes any strategic adjustments in future years because it’s now pretty clear that if they run into a rim protector that diffuses the penetrate and kick, the system doesn’t work.
In addition to the 7-2 rim protector comparison, I swear Knueppel is a Cam Spencer playalike and is 3 inches taller.

I know Houston is good, I thought they were the 3rd best team in the tournament. But this is insane.

Tennessee does this, to me and America, EVERY year. I don’t even get it. How can Barnes be at fault for guys just missing every shot?

This game isn't good for college basketball in a game of this magnitude. Houston's D and offensive rebounding is great but these offenses suck.

The biggest issue w/ Tennessee since Barnes has taken over is that they can't field a versatile offense that can create in a variety of settings. Gainey: can get to the rim, but his three-point shot isn't respected. Zeigler, similar idea, but also just so small. Lanier, lovely perimeter threat, not good inside. Okpara/Mashack, great defenders, but limited offensively.

The only year they had a damn good offense was the 2019 Sweet Sixteen team, but that happened to be one of Barnes' worst defensive squads.

I had a friend last name Knebel, always pronounced the k, just like we all did for Evel Kneivel.
Dalton Knecht also had a heck of a year

I blow my nose at your so-called Arthur King and all you silly English kuniggits

He's really good - their only weakness is having a true PG & ballhandler, why I think the only chance of beating them is pressuring the ball and forcing turnovers. Issue there is that the guys they do have can all handle the ball pretty well and they are so big they can see over defenders for the pass. They do have Foster off the bench as well if they need it, but he can be had.

Houston last chance. Don't see other side of bracket having much of a chance.

Houston have the size for Duke?
No - they are tiny on the perimeter. Roberts is 6'8" going against a 7'2" Maluach. They are big at the 4 with Tuggler who is a really athletic defender. Alabama's size disrupted Flagg, the issue is just that he can also go into pass mode and they have plenty of other options. Would take a perfect game by them (hitting threes), but they do run the only system can take them.

If Houston is serious about winning a national championship, which means they probably have to beat Duke, then they need to continue to destroy Tennesse. Sampson needs to stay mad at his team the entire game.

This will make people’s heads explode here, but Duke has neutralized Sears with the hard hedge.
That was an embarrassing display for Alabama. I would rather go down in the 2nd round than be completely outclassed for the whole world to see.

How were they are a #2 Seed? Seriously….

I was rooting for Alabama but it was like watching a JV team play Varsity. They go ”showed up“ and again, hard to watch.

I'd be sure Houston would mess this up but it is Rick Barnes on the other bench

I was rooting for Florida because heck I live in the state and my son is likely going there in two years, but Houston is an old school team. Sampson can coach and his teams are always tough.

He does not seem to get the credit he deserves. Maybe lack of chips. Is there any NCAA stuff in his past. Not sure why I think he was caught doing some shady stuff at one of the schools he coached at during his career.

Anyway, Houston has now become the team I am rooting for to take home the chip.

And note to self expect any Rick Barnes team, especially if they already have kind of a rep for not showing up in March, and never pick them to get to a Final Four.

He got in trouble years ago for excessive text messages, essentially. Nothing at all, in the grand scheme of things. He's a great coach.

Yet somehow Sampson has 3 top 16 recruits coming in next year.
