Geno warned us that the class of 2013 was going to be announcing...he said that it would be some names that we haven't heard...I wonder who they are... Here we are with a commit from the class of 2014. Welcome to UConn Courtney....

Courtney is from the Class of 2014. Still no one committed to UConn from the 2013 Class.

Yea duh. And why would you not copy " Here we are with a commit from the class of 2014." ?

And oh yea, Excellent. Keep 'em coming. 2013/2014/2015 any class is fine with me.

I won't get excited until I hear that she has three younger sisters, each one better than the one before, all committed to follow big sis. That is clearly the only meaningful way to recruit. Until then, UConn will never reach the next level.

I have always been leery of these early commitments since the Jacki Gemelos episode. Call me cynical. I wait until the girls are on campus, and in school. Too many things can happen.

Gemelos committed without ever having been to UCONN, visiting campus, meeting teammates, or even meeting the coaching staff. Geno has never done that again.

the kids who left since then actually signed and showed up on campus. EDD, Walker, Johnson. Courtney has been to campus, met with the coaches, met her future teammates, and knows what she wants.

it's not to say kids won't transfer once they get to UCONN. it happens. but if Geno suspects a wavering in interest (Xylena McDaniel), or for other reasons (Taya Reimer), he will look elsewhere he's more aware of kids changing minds than anyone...

Courtney lacks the athleticism of Kelly Faris. but her BBall IQ is off the charts. doggy daddy compared her to Maria Conlon, speed-wise. taller of course. i think she's also similar to Taber Spani. in a recent write-up, it was noted that while not the fleetest of foot, she was a solid defender because she is smart and knows angles. she was able to move well laterally to cut off the player she was guarding and keep in front of her. i wonder if her "athleticism" is similar to KML's in high school. here's the only video i could find...

If Geno wants her that young, she must be pretty good.

I was thinking about giving my verbal to UConn this week too...part of a package deal. I am 5'9 and very, very slow.

This is tremendously terrific news. We still have every reason to believe Sierra Calhoun will join us in Storrs in the 2014 class as well, so the pair would make an excellent foundation. Brianna Turner, among others I imagine, is still on the board, but if you tell me we have those two girls lined up for 2014, I'm a happy camper. Throw in Brianna, and this camper is ecstatic.

Still need some numbers over the course of the class of 2013 and 14, but this is some very positive momentum. The last five kids with a UConn offer to commit (McDaniel, Samuelson, Mavunga, DeShields, Reimer) committed elsewhere. Although not cause to shut down the women's program or anything, it certainly wasn't what we wanted.

As far as this being early to commit, I'll see your Jackie Gemelos and raise you a KML and a Morgan Tuck. Both had committed by or around this point in the recruiting cycle for their respective classes, I believe.

If Courtney can be the replacement Kelly, your ACL history qualifies you to be Caroline's replacement. ;)

Welcome, Courtney!

A couple of related thoughts:

1. Per the Horde, Courtney is on track to be her high school valedictorian. She will raise the team GPA.

2. Given #1, is there any chance that she will actually be class of 2013? Duke got Mike Gminski in a major recruiting coup about 40 years ago as he jumped from a high school junior to a college freshman.
