Morrow is a very physical player. As a 6' 1" post player she is undersized and uses her physicality to score and defend. She uses what the refs allow her to get away with. Do I think going down court and throwing elbows at Aaliyah is a foul - yes. The potential foul under the boards with Lou - no.

Aaliyah's reactions were perfect. Give a little elbow back but using her height, physicality and skills to out work and out play Morrow was the best. I liked Lou's fire after the altercation under the basket. Letting DePaul know she is not going to be pushed around is good. Let's face it, that was a physical game.

Aaliyah is, IMO, AA caliber. I don't think there should be any question.
 
Guys, Morrow is just a sophomore, same year as Amari. She still has a lot to learn and channeling her aggressiveness into harder play rather than frustration fouls is one of the things she has to learn, rather like a Croatian spitfire on UConn’s roster.

I Xavier game was earlier before even Oregon she proceeded after Xavier to play multiple high minute games. Researched the DePaul game high elbow under the basket then the Providence game minutes down into the 20s, another hit against Creighton, lower minutes again, next game she was out.

When Nika was hurt Aaliyah was dribbling through the press. Aaliyah plays high minutes runs during a fast break Boston does neither. Aaliyah does not have ABC/ESPN/SEC promoting her every WCBB game.

I watched the replays carefully and I didn't think that Morrow tried to trip Lou. The referees didn't either. Lou did however and understandably so because her leg was being raised as Lou was trying to get over her. Hence the thankfully muted "directive". However, we did learn something. Lou is one tough kid who is not afraid of anyone and who takes no "you know what". I just love her as a player and a person and this only added to it. What a great find for us this year.

Whatever. I guess your point is that DePaul plays rough yet it was 2 DePaul players that limped around after a tussle with the Huskies. The Huskies gave as good as they got.

Man, I love this team. They’re a buncha badasses, every one of them. I even saw the sweetest kid on the team, Amari, throwing elbows after a rebound. Awesome sauce

Same and I usually ignore the other team “plays dirty” comments but I just couldn’t this time.
 
I was impressed by Morrow as UConn usually shuts down the opposing team's top players. She has a knack for scoring and rebounding.

I am hoping after last night that finally folks will stop overlooking Aaliyah.... I am tired of this Morrow, Siegrist, Ronsiek, King, and Park-Lane talk without Aaliyah being at the start of the conversation. They are always going to stand out more because they are the object of their team's whole offense but each one of them gets individually outplayed by her as the games happen.

DePaul has as many injuries as UConn. As previously mentioned, Doug Bruno subbed Morrow out and put in a freshman to guard Aaliyah, the only forward he had available. The kid promptly picked up 3 fouls.

Yes I did see that. I never said Aaliyah wasn't physical. Aaliyah doesn't run up the court and purposely bang into an opponent with her shoulder for no apparent reason than to try to intimate. That's unnecessary and hence dirty play.

Why do you always seem to defend opponents?

It appeared to me that Morrow was stuck at 8 rebounds and around a dozen points for the longest time. Then when we "relaxed" our play in the 3rd and 4th quarters, she got her 2nd wind to get her double-double and 20 points. Then she was subbed for.

I was rather disappointed in her, especially after all the hype was made. She did play physical but I do not know if I agree with the statement that she idd not play dirty. There was one point in the game where she was coming down and started to shove Edwards, and then went up to Griffin and pushed her. It was really disappointing to see. Also to see how she gave up on a number of plays and instead of rushing around the court just stayed back. It was like she had given up on the play. If she was tired and I am sure she was... it probably might be better for Doug to sit her for a minute or two to give her a little break and regain her composure.

When you are one of the "star" players and your supporting cast is decimated, it's mentally hard, as you feel you have to do everything. Although not the same, Geno had a chat with Diana her senior year ( I think) about the pressure.

I’m not defending what you call dirty play. It’s not, by the way. It’s physical play and, yes, Aaliyah most certainly does bang into other players. Watch the game replay - there were slow motion shots of Aaliyah doing just that.

Yeah, some of the play in the lane was pretty brutal. Literally twisting arms.
Aayleah’s physical presence down low in recent games has been stunning.
She could have a second career on Friday night Smackdown.

Some of the wrestling moves she’s been forced to use to gain some respect under the basket would make The Fabulous Moolah proud.

In one play after she pushed Edwards, she elbowed Aubrey in the stomach causing poor Aubrey to bend over from the punch. The announcers spoke of having the refs begin to take over the game which I believe that they tried to do by calling more fouls.

In any event, fair play is greatly appreciated during a game.

I taped the game and have not finished watching it so I can't comment on the unsportsmanlike conduct, but IF she did that AFTER a dead ball, or away from the "prying eyes", then shame on her.

More than that, though, the acting and begging for foul calls was silly. Especially in Q1, she was flailing and flopping hoping to get a foul called on UCONN by the refs. Thankfully they did not bite. Clearly a talented player, but I did not like how she "comported" herself. And BTW, I'm SO glad "enforcer" Aaliyah gave as good as she got.

Uhhh...........Mr. Bean...lest we forget that Aaliyah has played on the Canadian National team for several years now. She has played with grown adult women (some who either had played or were playing professionally) many many times. Morrow brought nothing to the table Aaliyah has not already seen or experienced. :cool:
 
Morrow is a talented player but doesn't belong on any All American lists this year. DePaul isn't a tournament caliber team and while she has big numbers, she's been largely inefficient and hasn't shown she's among the best players in the country this season. Edwards on the other hand is probably on the cusp of being a 1st teamer this year.
