Edsall stepping down immediately

Call 911 and report you just witnessed a murder. Lucien pantsed JWill.
As bad as it is that things like this are happening, we are great drama rn. It's a spectacle

Maybe, y’all some spoiled, ungrateful football fans. 20 years ago UCONN football was bs on the national stage. He made UCONN football respectable the 1st go around and left it primed to continue and UCONN admin F it up. Now he comes back to help put it back together and it’s worst then before he built it up. Look how UCONN admin is handling this? Just a bunch of F ups lol
Wouldn't be so bad if they didn't publicly announce a year off, just to pick up right where they left off.

UConn AD should have a class on how to handle bad PR- The end result was inevitable but handled very poorly

SO...they came to an agreement ($$$$$$$) to expedite his departure. He was NEVER going to leave AFTER the season. THAT announcement was leverage.

nothing will change until the ad is gone, he's the real problem
Did the AD have the reigns on the edsall hire or did the boosters? I’ll give him one more shot. I think his first decision knowing that Spanos is incredibly qualified to even be at UConn and giving him a try out to be the future guy is a very smart move by him.

Gotta wonder if the issues were around who was playing. Edsall said there were going to be changes to the two deep. It was obvious to everyone Jack Zergiotis was a disaster...I wonder if a divided locker room on Edsalls starting decisions was part of the locker room issues.

Per source close to situation-

Edsall didn’t give any notice to AD DB, or coaches before announcing his retirement. Once he announced it, there was some heated conversations due to the lack of insight he gave to DB. Benedict decided this morning (or announced this morning), to team that the change is effective immediately.

"Randy Edsall and director of athletics David Benedict have come to the mutual decision that it is in the best interest of the UConn football program for Edsall to step aside immediately as head football coach."

Okay, change of plans then. Lou Spanos is coach rest of the season. Must have gotten ugly in DB's office the last 24 hours.

Anyone still think Edsall retired voluntarily?

Did anyone think this before the last announcement?

I will say Randy's announcement didn't feel like a UConn PR Dept announcement. It seemed like something Randy wrote himself. There was no thanking of anyone or usual formalities. Very direct and to the point. Very Randy.

If he really retired without telling Dave then that's just absolutely hilarious. Dude really tried to keep himself from getting fired by preemptively retiring.

We were incredibly strapped with the Diaco buyout. Bringing in Edsall to right the ship was seen as the "safe" play. This hire will either keep Benedict at UConn for life or he'll be fired in 4 years. The Hurley hire was a home run, so I think he's earned our trust to pick the right guy this time

He's a self absorbed a hole

This doesn't make any sense. He was getting this year's salary regardless
Agree. Much more likely is that DB attempted to give Randy some help with his job and was told to take a flying uno what. That is how Diaco left. That is how it works in all professions. Screw up and you get help with your job. Rejecting that help is career limiting.
