E60 - “The Other Hurley”

Looks good to me. Rehashing a lot of the stuff that we already know/have already seen and read before.
I want to be pumped for this, but given so much of the narrative and content was tidal waved at us last season/summer, are we going to learn anything new here? Or is it just going to be a tighter weaved doc narrated by Jeremy Schapp?

Are we going to learn anything new here? Of course not, the story has been told 4,000 times.

The most important thing for our program in the shifting college sports landscape is to be relevant.

Some of you people have lost the plot.
Yep, ironically if this were coming out while in a 'known' rebuilding year it'd be considered just the right medicine to boost UConn's profile and aid recruiting.

Anything other than a 3-peat is not a disappointing season. 20+wins after losing 4 guys to the NBA and 7 in 2yrs is very good. If UConn isn't in the title convo in 2025, it is not a bad strategy to change the conversation to talk about the last 2 titles. No one is going to win twice this year so can still assert that Storrs is the basketball capital of the world. Maybe this pivots the conversation to say that IF it isn't three in a row it could still be 3 in 4 years b/c we've got the best coach & program. Get us now, redux, etc..

Yes not sure why people are minimizing this - who cares if its a rehash of a story we all know well? The fact that ESPN (ESPN!) is promoting UConn at a time when more people are starting to pay attention to CBB is huge for the brand. And this is during a down year. We need the brand to be out there as much as possible - its how we can win over recruits and eventually the brand will be a big part of the reason we get into a power conference.

if it's about the team, fantastic. If it's about hurley, he needs to make it about the team.

Why? I just don’t see the downside.

Hurley IS UConn. As was Calhoun and as is Geno. This isn’t professional sports where the team is bigger than the coach. His story is captivating. Let them talk about him/us.

He's been a soundbite gaff for much of the season. He's the coach, he should be putting his team first.

Do you think this was filmed at all recently? It’s airing now, which is most likely not in his control. I’d bet money it was filmed in the off season. With all the work he puts in what evidence could you possibly have that he isn’t putting the team first? He’s one of the faces of the sport, who has to do mandatory press conferences. Ofc they’re going to make everything he says a sound bite. It literally is of no consequence. He was the same guy the last few years and no one here cared. What changed?

All in all, it’s free promotion. This is what comes with being the face and standard in the sport.

Well ... it's called "the other Hurley." if it was filmed preseason or even at the beginning of the season and he talks about 3peat more than once, he's gonna look like a fool, and so is the school.

He won't look like a fool, because most people have more than 1 braincell and realize this wasn't filmed 2 weeks ago

1. Are you implying he funded or asked ESPN to do a doc on his story?

2. If not. Should he have turned it down? And why?

3. He looks like a fool be cause he was chasing a 3 peat?

I’d also love to hear when the “right time” is if it’s not after back to back national championships.

Lord have mercy.
