2026 Recruiting: Dylan Mingo Official Visit this weekend!

And won the Bob Cousy award as the country’s best point guard. And MVP of the final 4. And yet some people here tend to overlook all this. I say his number should be retired. Ray Allen was a great player and a tremendous pro but Tristen had a better college career
Ray would've been considered the best player in college basketball as a sophomore last year.

Your point is based on speculation. My point is based on fact. Tristen won national championships 100% of the years he played here. They had similar awards. With the Bob Cousy award I give Tristen the edge. I am not dissing Ray, just think retiring numbers should be based on time at UConn not professional careers and #2 should be retired.

Its based on Ray scoring 21 points a game as sophomore on 49% FG and 44% from 3.

The two best players in cbb didn't even average 20. This in the era of spacing and offenses that are suppose to make it easy to score and be efficient too.

CBB was so good during these times Ray wasn't even an AA with those numbers on a team who won the Big East.

I'm still cautiously optimistic we'll get him, but it's going to a wait. He has a LONG list of visits and it's going to be a bidding war
Whenever a recruit leaves campus on an official without a verbal, it’s always an uphill battle. Going off the timing of this visit, if he continues to pursue his long list, it doesn’t quite bode well for the good guys.

This staff is also in the zone with precise focus. I doubt they want to play that game. Get the kid on campus, be transparent with a best and final, and it’s a yes or no. If it’s a not easy go, they will move on.

Mingo has been keeping things close to the vest. Trilly is speculating like the rest of us.

I don't think that's how it works anymore.

Times have changed and we're into a higher echelon of recruiting. If you didn't get the #75 guy to commit in 2019, that was concerning. If you didn't get the #7 guy to commit and he's only on stop 3 of his World tour in early September, you're still in an okay position if you think you lead.

Mullins took 5 visits after us last year.

Fair point. That said, if you cast a tight net like this staff does, or seeks to be doing, you better be really confident in your position.

These days, top recruits also like to keep the drum rolling and to do a public reveal. Was there one five star that said yes on a visit last year?

you give Tristen the edge based on an award that didn't even exist when Ray played in college, and the award that would have been given to Ray's position(SG=Jerry West Award) didn't even exist until 2014. When it comes to ranking UConn greats context seems to go out the window amongst boneyarders.

UConn doesn't win either without Clingan
Yeah Clingan was the irreplaceable part of the team. He was the guy no team in the country could match up with and the guy that helped us be the only team that could matchup with Edey.

He was a cheat code out there for us and made everyone's job (including Hurley’s) easier. Its unfortunate he doesn't have the awards or stats to backup him being the most impactful player in the country outside of Edey that year and one of the best cbb players of the decade.

The OV was the first step. He's earned the right to explore his options . There is a tremendous opportunity for him in Storrs in 2026. Proximity to play in front of Family and friends doesn't hurt. Next move is his.

This visit by Mingo was probably his "setting the bar" exercise. It gives him a point of comparison as he takes his officials. It also gives him a number for others to up the ante including us. The kid and his advisors are being both deliberate and smart. If he decides to take another visit near the end of the process, that would be very good news.

Dan is 6’1 or 6’2 right? If so, I’d say 6’5 looks right.
draw 2 lines through their eyes for difference in height. (parallel to one another) Dan - 6’1”? shoes unknown? 4-5 inches taller than Dan. If the staff likes him - i’m behind their pursuit.

Off topic (like this post is anyways) but Ray shot not only put up his scoring in comparison to a Cooper Flagg who averaged 19. But this efficiency compared to Cooper shooting 48% from the field and 38% from 3 (and Ray took more shots) is just crazy.

Again Sophomore numbers not even junior year.

But these lists want to constantly put Cooper top 15 of CBB players since the 2000s (I know Ray isn't included in that). The hype and forcing of him is crazy lol

I wish anyone had actual information about the actual topic of the thread: How in the world this visit turned out????
He arrived at Storrs, visited with coaches and team members as well as some members of the education areas. He ate dinner at undisclosed places and partied at clandestine dorms and apartments.
He watched some workouts, probably took some shots, said THANKS for the hospitality and I'll call you soon......................................................
