Duke Post Game Thread

I thought it was odd that Malachi Smith was in the game for the last play lining up to rebound Demary's second free throw attempt against Cam Boozer. Why didn't Hurley have a big in there in case Demary missed the shot? They could have gotten a rebound and kickout for 3 to tie. I guess they just trusted Demary wouldn't miss. The fact that Smith was in there at all says a lot about Hurley's current confidence in him to provide ball pressure (one of his strengths). I still can't believe we didn't foul in that situation. But it worked out so perfectly.

With all the problems we had failing to hit the broad side of a barn, there were 2 shots I knew were going in.

One was AK, the other was Mullins
Did it seem to you like time slowed down for those two shots? I felt like I had an inordinate amount of time waiting for those two to fall.

Evans averages 15 per game. Had only 7 points and he only took 6 shots. Foster played 14 minutes with 0 points, one shot and 3 turnovers. Cayden Boozer the only guard that had any success.

Duke shot 52% overall, 40% from 3, and made 16 foul shots. UConn shot 44% overall, 22% from 3 and made 12 foul shots. Duke outrebounded UConn 34 to 28. UConn winning with this shooting math makes no sense.

Key turnovers and were the difference. Duke had 13 turnovers to UConn's 5. Mullins, Karaban, Solo and Smith with 0 turnovers in a combined 112 minutes. Lots of big points were off of steals. Reed's steal and dunk cut it to 10, Solo steal lead to the 1st Demary 3 to cut the lead to 7. Solo's steal and 3 point play cut it to 2. Reed steal leads to Karaban 3 to cut it to 1. The THE STEAL by Demery and THE SHOT by Mullins. UConn had 20 points off turnovers to Duke's 7, with most coming late in the game.

Why were these momos saying Demary was at the line?

It was...

Second half UConn 16 points off of turnovers, Duke 0.

Awwwww
Instead of focusing on UConn on First Take, Stephen A. Smith has been spending most of his time taking care of Jay Williams' feelings so far this morning. Too many Dukies in the media. Aaaand there goes Williams, talking about UNC luring away an elite coach of another program again. I can't even with the Duke/UNC entitlement.

If you really want to enjoy your day read our opponents message boards.
Providence: They hate us but like the money UConn is getting them
Syracuse: They hate us but respect what UConn is doing.
North Carolina: It's like Christmas Day for them. They hate us, but hate Duke way more.

Lots of laughs.

Providence, Syracuse all have their personal reasons for despising UConn (Nova, St Johns, SH for that matter too)… A buddy of mine went to UNC-CH in the early 90s and has been a die-hard Tar Heel ever since I knew him as kids.

By and large, they respect the UConn brand. They loathe Hurley’s bombastic demeanor though (and didn’t care for Calhoun’s either).

Clutch play after clutch play, the two passes by Reed

Did Reed behind the back pass that? Or was it something else. Either way. What an amazing find and pass. And Silas having the stones to knock that down. I am still on cloud 9.

Didn’t listen to the entire thing but from Francesca’s podcast after the game:

“And I'm sure St. John fans are saying, oh, at least we played them tight. At least we had a 10 point lead in the second half. They're getting routed.
They were getting routed. And then they told you, then they showed you something that they've known for a long time. They're UConn.
And that matters. I don't care if you like it. I don't care if you don't like it.
I don't care if you're root against it. I could care less. I don't care if you can't stand Hurley.
Doesn't make any difference. They're great. This was a win for the ages.”
