Duke Post Game Thread

I thought one of the unheralded plays of the game was Alec Millender rushing out onto the court after Mullins 3 and then quickly realizing there were still 0.3 seconds left and quickly retreated back to the bench holding others back. Can you imagine if the UConn bench had gotten a technical foul at that moment. I don't even want to think about how I would have reacted. Goes to show, even a guy who never saw the court played a role. I'm half joking of course but in all seriousness, what would it take for a bench technical in that situation?
They could call that on pretty much every buzzer beater but fortunately almost never do. If Duke had won that way, it would have been the biggest controversy in NCAA history

For example, students rush the court too early pretty regularly, but they almost never punish the team on the court for it - only their athletic budgets later

Amazing game…barely could sleep and best AM coffee in many many years…

The only way that ever will get called is if there is no whistle, and someone is smart enough to throw the ball inbounds off of the guys that shouldn't be on the court.

The ref by the UConn bench stops the game almost immediately after the shot goes down because it’s for sure going to be a timing review. There is zero shot they call a T in that scenario.

Nice! The New Mexico round of 32 game was my first meet up with ‘yarders there. What a blast. mau was very animated showing box out moves and such. Their star, Long scored one point total in a UConn route.

Good memories my friend and Mr Toad getting on the table pretending to be Big Red as well😂👍🏻

I thought Cam Boozer was the best player on the court (although Reed was a close second). He got clobbered by Reibe for a shiner under his right eye and there wasn't even a foul call. He played his heart out and it wasn't enough but this loss wasn't on him. Like Cooper Flagg before him, one guy doesn't a team make (although Cooper had Knuepple as a Robin and it still wasn't enough - go figure).

UConn decided to roll with Karaban defending Cam and it did not work. Kenny Smith made a comment at halftime that sometimes great players have to demand their coach give them the toughest assignment. I doubt Reed was that assertive but in crunch time Reed did an admirable job against Cam. Credit Hurley and Co. for making the adjustment. And credit Reed. Only 1 foul in the second half. He really locked in and walled up committing to not fouling without playing soft. Mullins hit the shot of a lifetime but Reed is the one who stepped up and carried this team against the best player in the country. He has had a remarkable 4 game run. Hurley said he is playing himself into a first round draft pick. We will soon see. Rooting for our big guy!

Classic AK, struggled all game but came up clutch late. The dive into the stands to save a possession, the layup on the assist from Reed, the 3 to get us within 1 under a minute and the wherewithal to get the ball back to Mullins when it mattered most. He epitomizes toughness.

Replacement level player… and for the 837389285th time, some players bring so much more than their stats will ever show.

It was hard to hear in all the commotion whether the ref called time but that makes sense.

I loved Raffterty's reaction as he was in total shock and looked like he was about to pass out. Grant Hill you could see the dejection but he rebounded after getting over it pretty well after slamming the table. LOL!

Did Raft say Onions from Indiana? LOL

^^^THIS^^^ is exactly what I would've said if I knew what I was talking about.

I also think Duke calling an immediate timeout would’ve negated anyone being on the floor as there’s no delay of game or any other type of interference once the T.O. Is granted.

It's a freakin' amazing morning!!!!

Looking at the box score. Only 5 turnovers by the Huskies. Didn't notice it during the game but that is always big for us to have low TOs.
Duke had a higher field goal percentage and a higher 3-pt percentage and outrebounded us. But those extra turnovers were the difference, along with some key offensive rebounds. Ball had a huge one late. Missed his first free throw but still kept us in the game. But let's face it, we don't win that game without Duke's help. 3 huge turnovers were costly but even with that we needed Mullins Magic to win.

Clutch play after clutch play, the two passes by Reed

Reed's passing has been crazy late in the season. We all know about AK's late three, his save, and his not panicking on the frenetic broken play to find Mullins for the game winner but Solo deserves late game credit too. His find to Silas was one hell of a pass which hit Silas perfectly in the shooting pocket, he cut and made that floater on another great pass from Reed and he came down with the tough offensive rebound in traffic. He still can't buy a three but those were all huge winning plays at the end.

If you really want to enjoy your day read our opponents message boards.
Providence: They hate us but like the money UConn is getting them
Syracuse: They hate us but respect what UConn is doing.
North Carolina: It's like Christmas Day for them. They hate us, but hate Duke way more.

Lots of laughs.
