Duke Post Game Thread

I had to make a customer service call. General politeness, he asks how my day is going.

"Good day" robotically then "Very good day. Great day," as I acknowledge the smile on my face.

The women beat their biggest nemesis to go back to the final four earlier then this comeback against friggin' Duke of all teams?

Wow. What a day.

I’ll say something about the game tomorrow. Still too high and shocked. But very quickly:

1, That extends our winning streak in NCAA tourney games from the sweet 16 forward to an unbelievable 18 straight. Last loss being in the ‘09 Final Four to Michigan State.

2. That extends our winning streak in regionals (rounds 3 and 4) to 14 straight. We have won 7 straight regionals we have made with the last loss going back to ‘06.

Those two numbers are not impressive, they are closer to statistically impossible.

3. To get out of the East Region this year, we only had to beat UCLA, the team with the most national championships ever, Duke, the only team to compete with us for championships over the last 35 years and the team that has dominated that period in terms of Final Fours and Sweet Sixteens, and Michigan State, maybe the most consistently good but not great program in the last 25 years as well as the last team to beat us past the first two rounds.

What this program has accomplished out of nowhere for the last 36 years is truly remarkable.

As I watch the shot by Mullins for the 100th time. I realized how that last play embodied Karaban’s career at UConn. Karaban could have easily launched the potential game winning shot. Instead, he realized Mullins had more room and a cleaner look, so he gave the ball to him. Karaban has had a legendary career at UConn because he plays the game the right way. He’s never selfish and makes good decisions, more times than not.

I like this angle better. Every fan in the background is a different story. Also love the contrast between Mullins in the foreground and Scheyer just behind him

We caught a huge break when Boozer fouled Silas with 10 seconds left because I am not sure what we were doing on offense.

Although he only hit one of the two FTs, it let us set up the press.
They had a play for Karaban that Duke sniffed out, and I'm sure there were like five other possibilities Demary could have gone to, but Duke played great defense, and UConn was flummoxed.

And then Demary drew a foul. Unreal.

He got punched in the face by your pregame hrdon for him

EDIT: Today I learned if you type out the real spelling of hrdon it autocorrects to Superjohn.

True story, I have no comment or opinion on it either way, nor a beef with @superjohn Just sharing info for future generations.
