Duke Post Game Thread

At halftime, When Chuck declared that there was no way we could come back and it was going to be a Duke victory, I told everyone at our watch party that I still had hope since Chuck picking against us is good karma.

Just watched the last 10min again.

In addition to the obvious big plays…

Reed the man the whole 2nd half is obvious. Made some incredible passes in the post.

Malachi and Ross played ridiculous D. Ross made some key plays to keep rebounds alive, stopped that fast break runout with pure hustle.

Silas and Alex had two key saves on deflected balls to keep the ball in play.

Mullins forced a TO, drew a charge (that didn’t get called).

Hearts of champs, the whole group.

WOW

Of all the insane moments we've had in program history there's been nothing like this, including Tate's shot. To go to the Final Four, against Duke, after a huge deficit, the insanity of the final seconds, the depth of the shot, nailed by a freshman who hasn't been able to throw the ball in the ocean for a month. The unlikelihood of it all.

And strangely, given how we destroyed everyone during our 12 games during the back to back titles, this game and moment was the height of drama in the Hurley era.

Tarris Reed's mid-season transformation brings to mind Tristan Newton, but Newton obviously didn't have to carry either title team. I remember in January saying that Reed isn't in Sanogo's league. Well, that's done and over with. I can't believe his level of domination. I love that he finds a new go-to move at this absurdly late stage of the season (the delayed pivots back in the other direction that have thrown defenders off their rhythm and caught them over and over). He has been an ox. Unstoppable.

What's staying on my mind is that we pulled this off without playing all that great in the second half. We still couldn't throw it from deep until the to final couple of minutes, we missed some FT in big spots, we had quite a few opportunities get over the hump and couldn't, we were better but still inconsistent defensively. That was like our B- game. It's not like we went all buzzsaw at any point. It was methodical, chipping away bit by bit. It's so surreal how we managed to pull this off. The most unlikely win in program history.
I've always been a huge Tarris fan but the footwork and passing he's shown during this stretch is crazy.

He's always been a physical beast with soft touch but I wasn't expecting some of this Hakeem footwork and Jokic passing.

Can’t remember when but the Ross chase down of the breakaway where he stripped the ball off the Duke players’ leg was so freaking good.

Beats it... and probably shoves Tate aside as well IMO
Both were epic, though this one was for a trip to the Final-4.

The Shot came after UConn gave up a big lead in the Sweet-16 and our first on the big national stage. This one capped off a comeback from a large deficit vaulting us into the Final-4.

Both were amazing in their own right. I'm happy I've been alive to witness both.

Don't forget Silas deflecting that pass. Without that the ball gets to Ngongba and the game is over.
Perfectly timed play. It’s hard to blame Boozer there; he turned and saw an uncovered player in the front court. Not 100% he even saw Demary until he was committed to the pass. It took an unbelievable play on the deflection for that turnover to occur.
About 20 things in that second half had to go right for that comeback to occur, and it did

It’s an unfathomable comeback

True enough but those three straight top-two seeds in Ray’s years were tough and made it feel longer suffering than it really was
During the Michigan game that had a stat that Michigan was the first team to score 90+ points in their first 4 tournament since the 95 UConn team. That 95 team was probably the second best team in the country that year the just happened to run into the best team before the final four.
