Of all the insane moments we've had in program history there's been nothing like this, including Tate's shot. To go to the Final Four, against Duke, after a huge deficit, the insanity of the final seconds, the depth of the shot, nailed by a freshman who hasn't been able to throw the ball in the ocean for a month. The unlikelihood of it all.
And strangely, given how we destroyed everyone during our 12 games during the back to back titles, this game and moment was the height of drama in the Hurley era.
Tarris Reed's mid-season transformation brings to mind Tristan Newton, but Newton obviously didn't have to carry either title team. I remember in January saying that Reed isn't in Sanogo's league. Well, that's done and over with. I can't believe his level of domination. I love that he finds a new go-to move at this absurdly late stage of the season (the delayed pivots back in the other direction that have thrown defenders off their rhythm and caught them over and over). He has been an ox. Unstoppable.
What's staying on my mind is that we pulled this off without playing all that great in the second half. We still couldn't throw it from deep until the to final couple of minutes, we missed some FT in big spots, we had quite a few opportunities get over the hump and couldn't, we were better but still inconsistent defensively. That was like our B- game. It's not like we went all buzzsaw at any point. It was methodical, chipping away bit by bit. It's so surreal how we managed to pull this off. The most unlikely win in program history.
