Duke did what they had to do is win this game. I was watching the close up's of Coach JPM and she knows they have work to do to get ready for UCONN in 8 days. They are what they are a streaky shooting team that runs a playground type offense and whoever pops open can shoot it. The post play is very weak at best and their post team of Williams and Haley are nowhere to be seen driving to the hoop. Gray is still very limited and is playing on sheer guts and will.....I like the Liston kid and Geno will find a way to take her away and limit Jones's penetration into the lane..........Duke's zone defense will not work against UCONN.........Too many shooters that will have a 3 point field day......I like UCONN by 20+..AGAIN.....

While I agree, the only thing about the 3 is that sometimes shooters have an off night. I do think we have so many shooters that someone is bound to get hot. I will be there as I'm in Raleigh. Fun to watch Cameron get quiet!

I don't think Duke can out talent UConn. UConns consistent, no let up defense will win out. Geno will slow down Liston and UConns height will be a problem inside for Williams and Company. UConn stopped Maggie in the Penn St game who imo is a prolific shooter. They will stop Liston or a least slow her down.

The one thing Geno does better then any other coach is to get the kids to believe in his system and to execute his system with defense coming first. Many coaches will not pull their star player or their star recruit when they fail to do what they're suppose to do. Geno isn't afraid to pull them and that creates respect and discipline towards the coaches. This is why many UConn players perform at a different level then other players on other teams Kids know if they screw up they will be pulled. That's why there are no guarantees when you come to UConn. This is why UConn is where they are in WCBB and why everybody else is looking up the polls at UConn. Understand for Geno to get to this point didn't happen over nite. Its been happening for a very long time and only now is it at a very high level and will continue to reach new levels.

UConn is a special place for special kids. Its all about their attitude and what they want. I remember friends telling me about how Tina Charles was ready for big time college BB and the WNBA. When those NYC friends saw how Tina was developed and how much better she had become they were believers in Geno. Remember this. You can have all the talent in the world or you could have lesser talent but its what's you do with that talent on a continually basis and how that talent is developed which will tell you what you can become. I've seen many HS players who were the best in their school or class who became stagnet because they never were developed. They fell behind those with lesser talent who got the proper coaching to become stars at the next level.

Duke is a really talented and good team. UConn is just at a level that other schools have not aspired to yet. Injuries and foul trouble could derail UConn against Duke, but as we saw in those 3 nationally ranked games with KML and MTuck out, defense prevails .

Gotta agree with you Alum69 and Artifact. I was at that game and yes it still hurts and wont be forgotten. That's past history and while yes we could lose to Duke this season I prefer to remain positive and I don't think we will.

This loss is on the coaches. After Diana hit the shot to put the Huskies ahead, UConn had a timeout to take to set its defense. It didn't. As Harding flew down the court, UConn had a foul to give. It didn't. It's one time that Auriemma slipped up.

Wow haven't heard from you in a while. Post more often, please.

I known because I was present when her 3 point shot went in. It emotionally hurts & like a burn wound it takes time to heal.

Wow.... I didnt realize it was that big of a deal for some to still think about it 9 years later. I remember the CBS affiliate here was showing the Wake Forest-New Mexico game instead of this one.. so I went to a sports bar to try to watch it.... without any luck. Didnt find out who won til later that night.

After watching this game I am no longer convinced that Duke is a clear favorite to get to the FF. OU did not play very well and still made it interesting toward the end of the game. I don't think Duke will stay within 20 of UCONN, even at home.

After UCONN, I think there are no clear favorites to get to the FF. I think that there are about 9 teams that have a shot: Duke, Tennessee, Notre Dame, Kentucky, Stanford, Louisville, Maryland, Baylor, and I think Okie State has enough talent to add to the list. I am not sure that Louisville belongs there now that they lost Slaughter. That may have damaged their chances.

I know I do. It was a very big deal. (And if you didn't catch the reference made by Fiftyish, UConn wore new uniforms that night, never worn before... and never again, or at least never again by the UConn Storrs team, I heard a rumor that they were given to the Avery Point team.)

And you are not alone in not being able to see it, in a sense. That game - or even just that shot - is nowhere to be found on YouTube. It is as if every single Boneyarder made a concerted effort in order to ensure that video will never be shown again and all memories of that game could be wiped out (from a visual evidence standpoint). Seriously. It is if everyone - from HuskyNan to JS; from IceBear to TonyC; from EricSanDiego to UCBart; etc. - met and conferred, determined a strategy, and have ensured that the game will never be broadcast in any form whatsoever ever again.

Well played, Boneyarders. Well played. :)

However, it is my understanding that there is a photo or some other commemoration prominent in the Duke trophy room.

Cam:

Has tent city ever been used again for a Women's BB game like it was in 2003? I was at the game and it was electric. DT's Call Me Gesture is part of UConn folklore history.

BTW, can't find that online anywhere either. :)

Sure, blame it on the coaches, but the biggest blunder of all was by Ashley Battle, previous Big East Defensive Player of the Year, setting under the basket, waiting for a rebound. Just what the hell was she planning on doing with the ball as the clock ran out?

The obvious need was to delay Duke's bringing the ball upcourt, but UConn failed to do that.

Battle was the goat, in my opinion. She might as well not have been on the court for that play.

so far we have seen Duke, Kentucky and Baylor who can all score but they cannot defend. THey let the other team run up the scores. Duke let 17 OU score over 80 points? The only teams i feel that are holding their own so far beside UConn are ND and Tenn.
