Who the heck do you think UConn is going to attract that will "massively improve our roster", particularly given the NIL resources we have available? It's like our foundation is built in sand and people want to install a pool on the roof.Is he an upgrade over Taquon? probably but does he massively improve our roster? I dont think so
He’s not 3rd string. He pulled a hammy before the season even started. For his style of play a pulled hammy can be tough to come back from, and he has one more year left. It would not surprise me if he comes home to UConn, BC, Rutgers or Cuse (depending on the new coach).I know he was injured for part of the season, but my concern with Pyne is that in his 4th year of college football after starting at Notre Dame, he was the 3rd string QB at Arizona State. Granted, Arizona State was not a good football team, but you have to be wonder what both the Notre Dame coaches and Arizona State coaches saw in Pyne..

Pyne? How so? Isn’t he 22 yrs old? I mean I like the kid, but…..he has 3 yrs left

Arizona St. was in a rebuilding year, so it was pretty clear they were going to start Rashada this season as he was the #6 QB recruit in his class to develop him. We can debate if Pyne was behind Bourget or not, which some believe he was. He’s not 3rd string. He pulled a hammy before the season even started. I've been preaching this for nearly three decades. I also tried to sell the idea on funding men's lacrosse solely for this purpose (about 17 years ago Hathaway had no interest). If we had a men's lacrosse program (and put the effort in to run it properly) we could gain a ton of interest from affluent families in Fairfield county, Westchester (NY) county and Nassau (LI) county. It would be the easiest path to gain an affluent alumni base and as a bonus, we could be nationally competitive in a very short time.i keep hearing that the folks with the big bucks who live in Fairfield County have little contact with or loyalty to UConn, thus they won’t be opening their wallets as wide. If that’s true I’d be trying like heck to recruit and portal-pluck as many good players from Fairfield county as we can to change that dynamic. If Marinelli is the lynchpin give him a ton of NIL offers and make FCounty players his priority, starting with Drew Pyne.
I have said this for a long time. UConn has never had a sophisticated fund raising operation for either the university or athletics, although it has gotten better.i keep hearing that the folks with the big bucks who live in Fairfield County have little contact with or loyalty to UConn, thus they won’t be opening their wallets as wide. That ship has sailed - for him. He wasn't that good at ND. UConn can do better, but they need to commit to throwing the ball. From CT originally. Played at Notre Dame before transferring to ASU last season. Played in 2 games due to injury. Is this too big of a stretch for us?
This is just wrong.on his second transfer, will have to sit a year. Don't go chasing on this one.
Sitting a year (he won't need to if he finishes his degree) aside, due to connections, we should easily be able to determine if we do or do not have a shot at landing him. If we find out he's interested, we take our best shot. If we find out he's looking for a program with a higher profile, we put zero effort in him.on his second transfer, will have to sit a year. Don't go chasing on this one.
You realize he's at a state school right now?I've coached in lower Fairfield County for decades. New Canaan kids dont apply to state schools.
UConn is beneath them. Pyne's dad WILL NOT allow him to play for UConn.
Who wants to bet a beer?
Not hard to know what he means by "state schools".You realize he's at a state school right now?
Things change. Pyne’s dad and many other NC dad’s wouldn’t their son playing for Edsall 2.0 or 1.0 for that matter, or PP, however they might think twice about having their son play for a former NFL head coach, or former P5 head coach, or one of the Marinelli’s. I mean if UConn is good enough for John Marinelli, why not?I've coached in lower Fairfield County for decades. New Canaan kids dont apply to state schools.

Look at his PFF grades at Notre Dame:His quarterback rating at ND was 155 with 22 TD passes and 6 ints while he was there. With big games against USC, UNC, BYU, Navy and Cal. Not a group of bad teams at all.
What would Roberson #’s look like playing at ND? More than likely much worseLook at his PFF grades at Notre Dame:
Overall Offense: 69.1 (Roberson 70.8)
Pass: 72.0. (Roberson 71.5)
Run: 47.9. (Roberson 56.0)
Fumbles: 44.9. (Roberson 65.3)
These are not good grades for a QB playing at a top school with good weapons around him as he was graded the #92 QB which is why Notre Dame moved on from him. His PFF grades for his 2 games at Arizona State are really bad:
Overall Offense: 36.1
Pass: 30.8
Run: 61.3
Fumbles: 26.1
Ok you made your point, I guess we go with Fagnano.Look at his PFF grades at Notre Dame:

Pass: 72.0. (Roberson 71.5)
Run: 47.9. (Roberson 56.0)

The PFF grades are based on how the QB played given the opportunity to make plays so hard to tell. Playing better defenses but with better weapons. What would Roberson #’s look like playing at ND? More than likely much worse
Brosmer committed to Minnesota last night.I think UConn should target a transfer QB this offseason. Two QBs in the portal that UConn has a shot at are Matt Sluka from Holy Cross and Max Brosmer from UNH.
Welp...Brosmer committed to Minnesota last night.

Here's something to think about. Pyne's PFF QB grades at Notre Dame in 2022 would have been the one of the lowest grades for FBS schools UConn faced this year. 8 QBs were rated higher, 1 was equal, and 2 were worse. Equal or worse: Rice, FIU, and UMass.

Remember how excited everyone was when tailgating could start earlier...I'm guessing our fans are a little easier to thrill.
Sluka would be a great get. He can run and improvise like Shirreffs.
Forgot about Marinellis’s crybaby act. Any head coach of a high school football program who steers kids away from a program because of pettiness is pretty pathetic.Things change. Pyne’s dad and many other NC dad’s wouldn’t their son playing for Edsall 2.0 or 1.0 for that matter, or PP, however they might think twice about having their son play for a former NFL head coach, or former P5 head coach, or one of the Marinelli’s. Thank you. Again if its a fit for both sides, great! I just wouldn't assume he is some great upgrade from what is already here.Look at his PFF grades at Notre Dame:
