DraftExpress: Amida Brimah NBA Workout & Interview

Probably not, but could be be an energy guy at end of bench gets a few minutes here and there

He is way away from being a rotational player

Of course NBA teams are going to work him out because of his size, but they may want to watch film on him to save their time. Brimah will not play in an NBA regular season game. He is just not a very good basketball player, my opinion of course.

Hey he wasn't a great player at all overall I agree but never say never. We always saw things he could do but he needs to have the light go on and learn somethings himself that he can bring to the court. And he needs to get a ton stronger now.

If he is lucky he will get a 10 day contract and a couple free pairs of shoes.

Someone has to hack guys like Drummond and Howard. Who can foul better than AB?

To have a beast like Brimah with his athletic potential and defensive prowess and to be so poorly managed and utilized is why Enoch and Durham left the program.

Brimah should have been a clear first round pick, and if I was coaching him he would have been.

PS: If he wasn't good, he wouldnt be getting so much interest from NBA teams. They dont invite guys just because they're tall or else they would have invited Tyler Olander or Chuck Okwandu or Phil Nolan or Kentan Facey to tryouts.

Yeah they threw it to him 15 times a game and he averaged 7. Amazing how they underutilized him? How about he underutilized himself.

Huge difference in making jump shots without even a chair on you vs having a big man leaning on you while you try to turn and square to shoot or attempt to make a jump hook (or in his case get one to the rim even). He didn't have any offensive game and he will have less with these monsters guarding him. Will spend more time on the floor mopping it up.

You'll bash any kid to defend a coach making 3+ Million a year. Sad. Guess it wasn't his job to make him better with those 15 touches a game. Or maybe hes getting some real coaching now and getting better.

Either way AB is being talked up and you need to knock him down to run to KO's defense.

I'm not saying our efficiency with any of our bigs have been great but I want to make some points about Amida.

1) he spent the summer in Ghana which may or may not have had an impact on his game as well as efficiency.
2) on any post up, he had the option to turn and face. He rarely did. Why? Because he had difficulty putting the ball on the floor and finishing.
3) because of all the injuries, he was forced to play more often with our bigs and the combination was incredibly poor spacing.
4) he still remains one of the best rim protectors I've seen at UConn and I think he can be a valuable NBA asset if he can add some more skills to his game.

This. He's still an intriguing NBA prospect because he's so good at some things, so weak at others, if he can bring his weaknesses only up to average then he can play in the NBA. He looks more developable than most other players.

Screw off you'll bash a coach who has little or nothing to do with a kid who didn't learn squat for 4 years. Learn the game then we can talk, he never got better what the heck did you watch? He could hardly get a jump hook off never mind even to the rim.

If blocking shots and having no offense means something he has a shot. God forbid he has to guard someone on the low block (white kid from Wagner at 6'7 had his lunch). But you seem smart here LOL

I hope he makes the NBA. I think it helps recruiting. Go for it AB.

He took 8 steps after picking up his dribble on each shot, not one of those would have counted in a game.

He should have been used in the high post more for a quick jumper or pass to the cutter. This would have allowed him to use his above average passing, his stationary mid range jumper and put him in position for put back dunks. That's where KO screwed up on him.

Do you really believe he had above average passing ability?

His assist:turnover ratio was 0.16, so if he had above average passing ability, he had truly stellar turnover ability.

Ok, above average for our recent big men. He seemed to make quite a few nice passes over the years. Maybe not enough to be above average but I felt he was pretty decent in that aspect of the game.

How does a coach have little or nothing to do with a kids learning? Guess that 3M a year is charity KO is receiving for showing up. Yes I'll bash the coach because hes the professional getting paid, not the kid.

AB was here for a NC so want don't you show him as much respect as you do KO?

Want to talk about having ones lunch, how about Bashir Mason totally out coaching and being more prepared than Ollie? Maybe the game has passed you by old man!

Maybe you're just not smart enough to figure it out by watching the game young fool. What you missed with your less than brilliant analysis of Bashir Mason supposedly outcoaching KO is that they guy who was defending their big guys is a shot blocker only and a fundamental big guy almost always took him apart for 4 years. Do you actually watch games, do you understand the game at all young guy? Because to me anyone who doesn't get that our big guy never got better because he couldn't bring what he learned to the court, well then you're not very smart all. But that's okay young guy, experience helps and maybe when you're an old man you may actually know something about the game. Best of luck as you mature!;)

Amida Brimah had a few very exellent skills. Blocking and rim running will always have a place in college basketball. Passing was not even CLOSE to one of his skills. He was an absolute black hole when the ball was put in his hands. I think you're a pretty good poster, but on this you're just wrong. Amida could not pass the ball out of the post; he even looks awkward passing the ball. He arms don't have the right muscle memory.

Part of the reason why he turned it over/missed so badly was because he didn't know how to get the ball back out if he didn't have a good seal. It's not him being a selfish player, he just didn't play enough basketball growing up to have a sense of court spacing and where he can fit the ball with a pass. Still love the kid.

Maybe your eyesight is gone old man. So the whole game was lost on AB? UConn had more talent at every position accept for coach, but its all on AB.

How do you know what he learned and if he brought that to court? Do you go to practices? Its not like hes the only one who had trouble developing under KO.

Mature? you're calling a young guy you never met an idiot. Did I call you names? Don't worry I wont go to your level.

I'll be at all the XL games, I'm sure you wont make any. If you do decide to go let me know, would love to met up.

Yes you called me old man - you think I'm okay with that then you don't know me. Tough guy too huh? Seriously give it up and the old man will be sure to let you know when he goes I do go a couple times a year and would love to meet you too. Never called you an idiot either but keep going you're on a roll.

He wasn't a smart or good basketball player it's on him. Anyone can see he didn't understand the game or grasp game situations ever c'mon can't throw all at the staff. They have things they were weak on developing him and Enoch are not any of them, 2 guys who didn't even grasp the concept of help defense.

Yeah, neither of these guys could pick up help D for some reason. That's not Einstein level basketball stuff. There are really complicated rotations in college basketball sometimes, but for the most part (particularly Enoch), they really couldn't get the basics. Any coach knows how to teach a basic rotation in the post, that's just basic shell work. Enoch didn't seem to get that. Brimah would have these amazing plays on one position, and leave your head scratching when he messed up the EXACT same play a minute later.

I hope Ollie is recruiting guys with a little bit better IQ lately. It seems like our more recent big man recruits we may be sacrificing some athleticism for IQ (Carlton, I am hoping!).

I think Brimah didn't like the physical part of being a center. He seemed to foul out of games pretty quick when playing against very physical centers. What amazed me was watching the videos of him trying out for the pros. He never showed a lot of those moves while at UConn.

Have a gut feeling he had them during practice but it never followed to the game. Great kid just not a natural in any part of the game besides shot blocking. Who knows maybe he gets it at 26-27 years old, there's stuff to work with there.

I may be a fool but I don't see a role in the NBA for a center who does not like to play physical and has no outside shot. But hey, that's just me.
