Just want to concentrate all the nastiness in a single thread, since I know it's coming based on what I've already seen in Chat.

So go ahead y'all.

Geno is terrible. All the players suck.

Have a blast.

This UConn team doesn't have it,

By it I mean those one or two players you knew would take control when the game is on the line. KLS and Pheesa are great, but during the really tight games of the last few years, especially this year, where they have less back up, they seem to try and force things way too much. KLS, especially, who was supposed to the next it start, seems to be more of an outside specialist that can run really hot or really cold. Pheesa while an excellent scorer and rebounder, loses her prescence, especially when facing any decent big in the middle. I knew this year was going to be especially tough after losing Azura. But, I always though Napheesa and Katie Lou would have enough of it to carry us. Now I am not so sure.

Their best player played up to expectations. Allowed those around her to relax and play free. When our best players (Lou more so than Pheesa) do not play up to expectations, the rest of the team gets nervous and lo and behold, back to the AAC. :(

It really looked like we sleepwalked through the entire game. There was a play early in the first half when Collier could have had a loose ball just by bending over or diving for it. Instead she remained standing straight up and tried to grab the ball off the floor. I knew we were in trouble right there. The whole team showed no real emotion.

Ok, I’ll start! This team can overcome a lot. They can’t overcome KLS not being as effective a player as she was last year. But to be that and player, KLS needs help from her teammates making outside shots so that they draw the D away from her so she can get her feet set and get a clean shot off. Walker and Kristyn need to start making shots to free KLS up, or UConn will be bounced in the final 8.

If I'm thinking of the same play ...
She had 2 fouls at that point. Not jumping into a scrum was prudent.

For me personally the two biggest disappointments are Lou and Christyn. Lou missed more FT's than she made 3's. I remember once Lou hit 9 three's in a row one game. Nowadays I just want her to make two in a row. This team is not a good shooting team and is only fair defensively. CW meanwhile is just lost offensively. Now, CW's was kind of expected since she is a freshman, and perhaps my hopes got too high after the ND game. But Lou's shot is just a mess and it's a shame. Yeah, Meg missed a dozen layups, so she's my number three disappointment. The team just cannot depend on Pheesa to carry all of the offensive load. At the 1:17 TO Geno was as upset and animated as I've ever seen him, especially it seemed at Meg. No matter. This team, all of its members, have a lot of work to do.

Hey, I like threads like this! I'll try. :p

I was thinking earlier about Geno's inherent, very conservative roster management. When the going gets tough, he minimizes use of his subs even more than the average coach. In games against lesser competition, he prefers to keep the starting unit and/or his top subs out there until they can prove to his high degree of satisfaction that they're running on all cylinders.

It's who he is. It's part of the overall package that has given him more national championships than anybody.

That doesn't mean that it works equally well every year, though, and I think this is one of those years that it is not. This year's starting unit is not quite good enough (barring good fortune, good rolls, etc.) to consistently do the job by itself against the best competition. And it occasionally is leading to inversions of the usual pattern such as in this Louisville game, where subs got earlier and more important minutes here than they do in the average game against far lesser competition.

Does that mean he should change it up this year and try to force more important minutes on subs who aren't quite ready yet? I'm not willing to go that far, and I'm not sure he's even capable of trying that without excess bile production. :D Just the way it feels at this point, though.

There was no scrum. The ball was closest to her. It was hers for the taking.

I like Jeff a lot and I'm genuinely happy for him and his team. Plus it's hard for me to really feel bad for the Huskies, if you know what I mean. They didn't exactly pass any kind of eye test tonight.

Putting aside the play our two seniors specifically, the shooting was again abysmal tonight, and for no real reason that I can discern. How many layups and free throws did the Huskies miss before the game got out of reach?

This is never going to be a great defensive team, for reasons discussed at length on this board. That means we have to score the basketball. Tonight was a story of empty one-and-done possessions due to missed shots and failure to rebound the basketball. The team simply needs to improve its shooting if it wants to achieve any of its objectives this season.

The #2 team in the nation played like number”two” tonight. A whopping 39 %!! Not quite as bad as Baylor but baaaad. KLS used to be really really good. Now just good. Some good D by ONO then blows a few bunnies. And on and on and on

OMG - The game thead was a disgrace. I guess we can't lose 2 regular season games on the road to top teams otherwise the whole dynasty is over. I've got a record number of people on ignore. Some of the negative remarks were way over the top tonight. Credit to LV. They played great. But there are some that are already writing the post mortem for the entire season. That's pathetic if you call yourself a fan. Feel bad for the mods. They can't put people on ignore and have to police this mess. Sad times for the Boneyard when we are having another outstanding year. Incredible.

Katie Lou's Offense usually goes missing more often than not in big games. Usually, the rest of her game improves, but her shot always goes missing.

But I like our chances in March. Better team won tonight .

Pretty simple. Our point guard shot 20 shots, made 7, had 3 assists. Our best player & I don’t think it’s really up for debate anymore had 20 points on 9-16 shooting. That was our mismatch & Geno got her the ball after every timeout but the 3 guards remained clueless in the fact she would get a great shot everytime she touched out. At some point Collier has to start just calling them out in the huddles. Very alarming, will be a tough road for us to get back to the FF. Still have a better shot that not.

I remember when she hit all 10 that she took.:)

Lack of emotion has been a hallmark of this group of players in big games. They get shell-shocked when they have no reason to be on a talent basis.

After watching a bit of the South Carolina vs. Kentucky game tonight, we could be in a heap of trouble next month.
(Doom and Gloom....)

UCONN has lost 2 games both on the road sold out crowd, both losse to top 5 teams. Sky is not falling. Tournament time games will be at neutral sites. I still think UCONN is not done.

This is all true, but it's not like we've looked very good doing it. Still nobody willing and able to take over a game. Still nobody proving an emotional lift.
