Nika couldn’t stop Hidalgo any better than Chen or Arnold. And our bigs feet never left the floor tonight. Definitely need more from them. Strong was handcuffed by fouls, oddly enough in a game where almost nothing was called. I thought Paige needed to force things much sooner than she did. Basically, I was shocked at how lethargic we seemed. Lots of standing and waiting for someone to make a play.

From the start of the game until the end it seemed that we were disjointed. A player would get the ball and, bam, throw it up. One of the most important things Geno teaches is to set yourself up for a shot. Even the half of a second to a full second can make a world of difference in the trajectory of the ball. And, as difficult as it may be at times, Paige has to learn to take the game over when the whistle blows.

I’m not sure what game you were watching but I watched Paige trying to take over but she could not do it all by herself! She was hounded all night by their defense! Not saying that was her best game/effort ever but she did score 25 on 50%+ shooting. It just seemed like she missed a lot of “critical” shots that could have changed the momentum while Hidalgo made a lot of momentum shots! That, Sarah’s foul trouble, ref no calls, woeful three point shooting coupled with our usual poor three point defense, and a “lack” of stepping up on the part of certain players made this game essentially impossible to win! They shot 10/18 on threes (56%) and we shot 3/16 (19%)!!! That was the ballgame! I’m shocked they didn’t win by 25!

I have to say though, as depressing as that game was, we played poorly, did not have Azzi or Aubrey, got zero points from Ash, a sort of lackluster game by Sarah, and we only lost by 11! It’s not the end of the world! We (everyone) will get better, if we play them again, it will be in March/April and we will be a different team! I doubt we’ll see another 0 fer from Ash, we should have two major (senior) pieces back, and Sarah and Jana will be a lot better! T This team is simply too young to be thinking about an undefeated season! That should not be a surprise to anyone! We still have as good a shot as anyone (better imo) to be lifting that trophy at the end of the season!

I agree with Cuango. We will be better in the future. It starts in practice. We've got to work on our 3's and hard drives to the rim. Our bigs have to work on blocks and rebounds. We will get better.

Hmmm, the one major point I was trying to make was what I felt was the reason for the poor shooting. You ask me what game I was watching and then you point out our foul trouble, ref no calls, poor shooting, poor defense and then players "not stepping up." Were we watching the same game?
